Mary Shores shares her life experiences and the knowledge she has gained over many years that have helped her attain an authentic and happy life. The question is asked, 'What do you do when everything you hold dear collapses around you?' This question is explored in depth using simple exercises such as the Magic 8 and other easy to follow actions. It increases your level of awareness tenfold and gives you a clear understanding of why certain sections of your life haven't gone as you wanted. It encourages you to achieve the life you want and not what others expect from you. This book will guide you to the finishing point of living an authentic life. Mary Shores is the CEO of a collection agency. You'd think that would be a pretty negative job, but she developed a system of positive interaction (Conscious Communications) to keep her staff and her customers happy. 99% of it resonated with me.
Okay, caveats: probably none of this is new. Some things in the book, very few, fell flat for me. For example, I don't believe "this is a universe where there are no accidents," and Ann Cuddy's posture-affects-physiology research, which Shores quotes in one small place, has been disproved.
Self-help books are extremely personal. But for me, this book has been motivating and comforting. It's great to feel as if I have some small amount of control over my life. Maybe I knew some of her ideas already, but if Mary Shore's book only serves as a reminder, good enough. Every morning, I re-read a half-dozen highlights to set me on a positive path for the day. This is a change in behavior, as I formerly would drink my morning coffee, open my laptop, and stick my head in the toilet of national and political news. But then I had a big life challenge, and I needed the strength of positive influences. Along came this book.
Here are a few tips I review each morning, and yes, Shores does give credit to such people as Tony Robbins when she uses their ideas.
*the power of now
*what you focus on, grows
*always know your outcome
*self-care keeps you strong
*the power of RAS (Reticular Activation System)
*your origin story matters---but it doesn't
*keep your vessel clean / cleanse, not clog
Like I said, self-improvement books are very personal, but this one resonated for me, and it's helping me stay strong during a difficult period in my life. I'm glad I found it.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is seeking to make changes in their lives and may not know exactly where to start. This book has become one of my go to books that I recommend family, friends, and clients.
When I was in a dark place many years ago, I was reading some popular women's magazines for some guidance. That was prior to the internet. All that I recall reading back then was...do this or act like this and men will love you. I don't recall anything that suggested to be your best authentic self.
After searching for something better, I started listening to Tony Robbins, Louise Hay, and Wayne Dyer on YouTube. While doing some soul searching, I knew life could be better but I wasn't making choices that were aligning with my dreams and desires. Little by little I took what I could from what I had learned and could apply to my life at the time. I started to feel better about myself and started to make better choices. Wonderful people and experiences entered my life over the last few years. I am happy to say that Mary Shores is one of them.
When the student is ready the teacher will appear!
Mary shared a quote from a movie that influenced her and I like it as well. The movie Pay It Forward had a quoted from Haley Joel Osmond's character that I love “I guess it's hard for people who are so used to things the way they are - even if they're bad - to change. 'Cause they kind of give up. And when they do, everybody kind of loses.”
This book is a life changer....Enjoy!
