Academy Award-winner Kevin Kline (1988 Best Supporting Actor -- A FISH CALLED WANDA) and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (A PERFECT STORM) heat up the screen in CONSENTING ADULTS, the spine-tingling sexy thriller that seduced audiences and critics alike. When two couples living next door to each other grow too close, one of the husbands risks everything for a passion he can't resist -- his neighbor's wife. His temptation traps the foursome in a shocking web of betrayal and murder. And now accused of a crime he didn't commit, he must race against time to save his family from a shocking fate. Directed by master of suspense Alan J. Pakula (PRESUMED INNOCENT), this erotic thriller twists and turns as tension builds to a sensational heart-stopping climax.

Despite its suggestive title, this is actually a mystery/thriller and a very good one. Richard and Priscilla are a happily-married couple who have new neighbors, Eddy and Kay. Eddy is a bit unscrupulous and a little strange, yet he works very hard to establish a tight friendship with Richard. Richard is shocked when Eddy suggests a wife-swap, but later thinks it might be fun.

The first half is a rather typical suburban-marriage story, but before you know it, BAM! It turns into a scary murder story with twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Kevin Kline gives a strong performance as mild-mannered Richard who thinks the grass is greener next door, but Kevin Spacey steals the show, as usual. He plays overly-friendly Eddy, gradually becoming the kind of raving psychopath that Spacey plays so well.

There are many plot holes that make the story more than a little far-fetched, but still I enjoyed it and recommend it for those who like thrillers.

Written by R Mumford's wife. First let me say, as I have many times before, that I would literally watch Kevin Spacey read the phone book, I think he is that great of an actor. Though the storyline was slightly unbelievable, hinging on Kevin Kline's character 'recognizing' his wife in an intimate moment, Spacey chews up the scenery as usual as the likable at first but then very chilling new neighbor. I even like his blonde hair in it! A good movie for little Saturday matinee night at home.

Even this is an older movie, it is not out of date !
Every one is perfectly cast and I am telling you the twister at the end makes this oldie a Goldie
Is this the definition of a suspenseful thriller or what ????????

This is a very well made movie with two giants, Kevin Kline and Kevin Spacey- and a story that keeps you in suspense to the very end. While I am giving five stars to the movie, I must let the readers and Amazon.com know that the video had technical issues for me and had many short and not so short pauses, which made watching annoying.

This movie started out great the way it established the growing friendship between two very different couples and then moved into a murder mystery. The acting was first-rate (with the exception of Rebecca Miller -- can we say boring?) but then the plot defied logic. For example: Kevin Kline's character doesn't realize that he is not having sex with the neighbor's wife but with a "stand-in"? When Kevin Spacey's character confirms his wife's death in Savannah with the police, the police do not think to ask: "Hey, didn't you already report her death a few months ago?" Further, it is completely unrealistic that a shattered Kevin Kline's wife would have so immediately taken up with Kevin Spacey. By the time the film ended, it felt like a comedy, it was so ridiculous!

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Not only does it feature two very popular actors named Kevin (Spacey AND Kline), but the plot is great. Except for a few minor details, I feel this movie has stood the test of time.

Mill creek is releasing a lot of titles from the Hollywood Pictures/Touchstone pictures back catalogue on blu-ray.
These are all titles that Buena Vista/Disney is clearly not interested in releasing themselves and amazingly we get them at very good value for money. If you are interested in loads of extras then these titles are not for you, because there are absolutely none.
You just get the movie in a decent, not perfect, presentation.
No 5 stars because they should have at least included subtitles. A Theatrical trailer for the movie would be a nice addition too.

The picture quality of this BluRay is barely better than the DVD.
The sound is just the same, Stereo 2.0
It has no subtitles at all; not for Hearing Impaired, not in Spanish, not in French.
This BluRay was made BY THE Mentally Impaired or FOR the Mentally Impaired.
I'm angry for buying this very poor VHS quality BluRay.

The movie is awesome, pure Allan J. Pakula, mistery, suspense, virtuoso acting from everybody.
From Forest Whitaker, Kevin Kline, and Kevin Spacey (all oscar winners) to Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio who is the balance of the plot.
Rebecca Miller is also shocking as an actress.

PLEASE PLEASE Make this Blu Ray again the way it should be made.
