I’m going to start off by saying that this book was not what I thought it would be. And I mean that in a good way. I was expecting the heart wrenching plot like the other books I’ve read of Rachel’s. But let me tell you something, this lady can do humor. Laugh out loud, snort out the beverage you just drank funny. I swear that this book should have a warning, “Chocking hazard: Do not eat or drink while reading. May also cause abdomen pain from excessive laughing.”

Colton and Milo are hilarious. Oh, and Max. God, I loved Max. I think he’s the best BFF ever written. I died at the stuff that came out of his mouth. All of the characters, main, and secondary were awesome. I devoured this book. It wasn’t like others that I have read and that’s one of the reasons I loved it. Rachel really nailed the characters personalities and the conversations between them all.

I’m really excited now for the next book in this series. You get a glimpse of it at the end and I want it now. Seriously, read this book. You will die laughing and fall in love with the whole gang. Milo, Colton, Jason, Max, Reid and Grandma will having you laughing, swooning, and smiling that big cheesy smile. I wore that smile a lot.

I am obviously in the minority here because I just can't understand all the great reviews. Honestly, this book felt like I was watching one of those bad Adam Sandler movies. It started out decent, some of it was funny, but then it got old fast and I just wanted it to be over. Too much drama and unbelievable scenarios. My family is crazy as hell, and we have nothing on the psycho's is this book. I get that this story was supposed to be light and fun to read, and I respect that, but I just couldn't take it seriously.

Even though I was not impressed with the antics of the characters, what really ruined it for me was that there was no depth to the characters. I felt like I didn't know who they were or where they came from. There was next to no background and I didn't care if they got what they wanted or not, every character was completely forgettable. I always say that writing a book is difficult and I respect authors, especially since I personally don't have the ability to do it, so I never want to trash someone's hard work. Obviously a lot of people enjoyed this book so the author accomplished what she set out to do.

If you are into a book with no character depth or development and read about a group of people constantly trying to out-do another's crazy, then this book is for you. if you like a story you can immerse yourself into that's heartfelt, then skip this one. i'm just glad I didn't have to pay for this.

3.5 Storm My Castle Stars

To me this book is like a Will Ferrell movie, in that sometimes the comedy and shenanigans were hilarious and working so well that at one point I was thinking ‘this is the best NA book I’ve read this year’ but then later it was so OVER THE TOP and the same gags just kept going on and on that I was thinking ‘I wish this book ended nearer to the 80% mark because now it is just driving me crazy.’

Don’t get me wrong for 80% of this book I was having an extraordinarily good time and it would have totally had a 5 star rating but that last 20% I’m sad to say crashed it to a 3 star overall. Still I love the premise of friends from childhood who can’t seem to figure out how to move it past that even though it is clear to everyone around them that they are made for each other.

Let’s talk about some of the things I totally loved in this story:

① - Milo is a hot mess, if it can go wrong it does and she is usually in the middle of it and someone always ends up with a slight injury. But she is pretty adorable and I was rooting for her from the beginning to find a way to get Colton. They have this easy repoire when just kidding around and teasing each other but once they get close together it all becomes a jumbled mess. After Colton kisses Milo and then apologizes for it she is crushed and accidentally starts a chain of events that become hilarious.

***“Milo, say my name if you did something really stupid and unforgiveable like the time you told me I wouldn’t get a splinter in my ass for using a wood sled.”
“Max . . .” I purred, trying to sound sexy.
Colton leaned in like he was trying to listen to our conversation. I glared at him, hoping he’d back off and give me space.
“S*** balls. Oh, look, a bus! What?

I don't think I have ever laughed so hard in my life while reading a book! This was the first book I read by Rachel Van Dyken and I have already bought several of her other books because I loved this one so much. I laughed so hard that I don't even need to exercise my abs in the morning. Yeah, it was that good. I just stayed up until 2AM because I couldn't stop laughing and I couldn't put this book down. The biggest plot of the book is watching the witty banter between Milo and Colton who have loved each other for years but never seem to be able to tell each other this. Seeing their interactions is like the equivalent of one of their games of ping-pong that they use to settle an argument. You can feel the passion and love between the two and know they will get together. The question is, what will happen on the way? Add to this plot a cast of insane, dysfunctional family members and friends who may or may not need some serious therapy and you have yourself a very enjoyable day of reading. I absolutely loved this book and will be buying a lot more of Ms Van Dyken's books in the future. Just a word of caution, you should probably plan to stay up late reading because you really won't be able to put this book down. I HIGHLY recommend reading this book and can't wait to read others by this author!
