This was a wonderfully written book with memorable characters. I enjoyed how our author Ella Fox set up the foundation for the rest of the book in the Prologue. It was shocking when reading the first chapter that so much had gone wrong in the four and a half years between the Prologue and the start of this story. The two would-be-lovers were at polar opposites. Immediately you are driven to wonder what could possibly have happened to alter their feelings so dramatically.
Sloanne is really a character to be loved and protected. Throughout the story, her character comes through as young, full of hope despite losing everything she loves, and most definitely in need of protection. She has loved Killian for so long and so deeply, I could not believe her when she was trying to say she hated him. I thought she was just reacting to the way he was treating her.
At first, I can honestly say I hated Killian. After all that Sloanne has been through, his manipulation and treatment of her, made me want to save her from him. Somehow, though, I could tell there was more to his attitude than met the eye. I also kept hoping that whatever was the cause for the rift between them would be resolved. How could he not love her anymore?
This book is an exciting ride to the end.
Told from Slones POV. One chapter from Killian
Minor editing errors. Nothing too major.
I have read every book in the Hart series so I had really high expectations for this book. It definitely delivered but I think I liked the Hart series more. Don't get me wrong though. This book was good. There were twists and turns galore and the chemistry between these two was intense. I will say I had most of the "bad guys" figured out very early on so there were no real blindsides but the amount of deception in this book kept things interesting. Just as you think they make progress another deception is brought to light. I would agree with the other reviews I read. You hate Killian for most of the book until you learn his reasons for hating Slone and seeking revenge.
Love this author and will continue to read books by her.
This story is about Killian and sloan who lived next door to each other and Sloan was best friends with Killian's sister. Eventually Sloan falls for Killian but because of an age difference they have to wait until she turns 18. Drastic things happen before she turns 18 and those events cause Killian to walk away from Sloan but not only walk away - he leaves hating her. She tries to find out because she needs him and loves him but he doesn't give her any explanations. 4 years go by and Sloan is basically living in hell until Killian comes in and says that he has just bought her. Yup ... purchased her.He still isn't nice to her and she realizes that if she doesn't go along with this her best friend and family will suffer financially.
As the story continues you see that Sloan still loves Killian. You'll see Killian struggle with conflicting feelings and eventually you will find out the real story. Again ... when you think you know - you really don't.
Enjoy ... it was good.
I thought I had this plot figured out but, boy, how wrong I was!!!
