Second books are always said to not quite live up to the debut. Boy, that doesn't apply in this case! First class and a well-deserved five stars.
Well done, R C Bridgestock. Please hurry up with the next one.
Two unconnected horrific murders and a missing detective top Dylan's list. Will he be able to solve these cases and salvage his slowly deteriorating relationship with Jen? A young boy is found brutally beaten and a young wife and mother is found burned alive in a public park. The worst part of all, his missing detective seems to be somehow connected in the whole sorry mess.
This is the second book in the D.I. Dylan series. I have to tell you, the first book was excellent; but this book beats the first, hands down. The authors just keep getting better and better. I can hardly wait for the third book to come out. The story line flows flawlessly despite there being several different cases being investigated. Once I started this book, I could not put it down. I had to see what was going to happen next. Dylan is my hero. He is not your flowery, mushy kind of guy; but he has a special something that draws me to him. I was a bit annoyed with Jen in this story. Even though she works in the field and has been with Dylan for a bit, she acts kinda like a spoiled child in this episode. She should be well aware of the intense hours that he has to put in; but yet she is slighted at every turn because he is not there as much as she wants him to be. As time goes by, my heart softens towards her when all becomes clearer. The murders are quite descriptive; but this only adds to the appeal and fantastic writing of the story. It never ceases to amaze me of the lengths that humans go to brutalize another human being. If you like a good murder mystery, you will love this one. It will keep you on the edge of your seat and asking for more. I cannot recommend this one highly enough.
I wish to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy for reading and reviewing purposes. I was not required to write a positive review. I was not compensated in any way except to receive the book to review.
I really enjoyed catching back up with Dylan who is now living with the lovely Jen. Dawn, Dylans colleague, I loved in the first book as her and Dylan have some great banter going on. Due to her being pregnant she seems to take a bit more of a back seat in this book but it does tie in nicely with the storyline.
To be honest the crimes that need solving in Consequences are certainly not for the faint hearted. A woman burned to death has got to be pretty harrowing but what was worse is the case to do with the poor young boy who has died through neglect and physical abuse.
I actually have to applaud the authors as they haven't shied away from the atrocities that the police force have to face. Don't get me wrong it isn't the easiest of things to read and I literally could have sobbed for the poor little lad, but it reminded me how much we should value our officers as it certainly isn't a job that most of us could do, I for one certainly couldn't anyway.
Consequences is a hard hitting novel which I think due to the nature of the story some readers may find some parts upsetting. Other than that though this is a gripping read which had me racing towards the end as I wanted justice for the victims as much as Dylan and his team.
I have to say what a great crime series this is turning out to be and I can't wait to read the next book.
Many thanks to the authors for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It would be really nice if they were numbered or listed in order on Amazon, so that it would be easier to find the correct order. I read them out of order, which is not optimal, and I still couldn't put them down. Now that I have finished all 4, I can get something done.
I got a bit fed up with his wife who seemed to me a big complainer but towards the end of the book I understood some of her problems. I have since discovered that this is the second title in a series. I think the first would give a good background to the characters..
