The problems may come from the fact this is the author's first book in the third person. I couldn't find the neutral voice in the narrative. It was written in the way the characters spoke which made it tough to sink into the story.
It's tough to explain but the descriptions were lacking a romantic voice. The use of "hole" and "cave" instead of sheath and core as euphemisms for vagina just kept taking me out of the story.
There are more examples but the point of this review is to celebrate the very delicate subject matter. The description of the book states the secrets that both characters keep. This author handles the subject matter an in-your-face yet sensitive manner. I don't know if this ending is satisfying. That is not because it was written poorly. It wasn't. But the controversy of the subject matter is hard to accept and understand.
I'm glad I read this book and most of all I'm glad the author didn't take the idyllic way out.
This is a fine story and with practice I believe Ms. Lace will get the hang of the voice in the third person.
Buy this book with the understanding that there may be places you might have to put it down so your eyes don't roll out of your head.
The author brings forth front and center the magnitude of the strength we place in our spiritual faith base. It will have you questioning the validity of preconceived notions regarding just how many times we are to forgive those which trespass against us. Will your humane beliefs supersede, make null and void or coincide with the tenets of your spiritual beliefs? This book was a very hard read for me but one that brought forth many questions as to what would I have done, if placed in this dramatic and heartbreaking situation that literally was a life changer.
I recommend this author very highly for her ability to write on such a horrific topic and manage to bring you to edge of your seat drama which literally wills and challenges you not to feel sorrow for a monster. A monster redeemed or a monster condemned? Read the story and voice your personal answer.
Adam and Roxanne meet and fall in love, but Adam has a huge secret he keeps from Roxanne. Overtime the secret is revealed and Roxanne has to make a decision of staying or going, but even that decision isn't easy.
It's hard to review this book without giving away the storyline. However, it's a different read, but I wasn't disappointed. It was just different from what I really enjoy reading.
If you want a true story, a dark story and one of redemption and love, this is your book. It's not an easy read for some.
A few errors but this author has improved in that area. My only issue is the misuse of 'then and than.' Saw it once and cringed.
Different plot and storyline.
Love under the most difficult circumstances.
You felt connected with everyone, even when you didn't want to be connected.
It may be taboo for some people.
I kind of felt some sort of way about the author writing the reason 'it' wasn't reported. DNA exists and it may have prevented someone else from being a victim. I don't want other women to think that way, because reporting this crime could make them feel better as well.
