Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Based on the construction teaching the authors have done over the past twenty years at the University of Greenwich, London, this is an introduction. It aims to explain and illustrate. It is intended to be throughtful and show how construction can be inventive and interesting. So often construction is based on copying what others have done before. So why do North Americans use insitu concrete kerbs and Europeans use pre-cast concrete kerbs, why do Brits lay unit paving (bricks and blocks) on cement on concrete? Understanding of materials is important so as an introduction this aims to cover materials thoroughly, and then lead to how materials can be assembled to make walls, paving and so forth. We have illustrated it as much as we can, and in colour (one of the first books of its type to be in colour) and to be affordable. Construction can be fun.
This is not a pattern book, so don't buy this to find lots of drawings to copy. Buy this to understand how and why and maybe suggest different ways of building landscapes. And it is available in Spanish and French so if you are doing work in those areas two copies might be useful.
