Mercy House sits in an inner city war zone of crime, alcoholics, drugs, prostitution, and rampant AIDS. On average, 50 murders and 140 rapes are committed in South Africa every single day.
Savannah engages her heart and throws her entire physical strength into working at Mercy House. Blake appreciates Savannah’s attitude and hard work. The children she works with name her “Themba,” hopeful. Pumzile softens toward her slightly—could it be the beginning of friendship between the former prostitute and the white girl from New Zealand?
God is in control. Blake, Savannah, and Pumzile are whisked away from Hillbrow to a safe house after they witness a gangster murder on their street corner.
