This is a somewhat helpful book. It certainly does focus on the best container plants for the Midwest and gives helpful information on each plant. The color photos are quite nice, too. My problem with it is that it could have been even more helpful. It does provide a chart in the back that marks the characteristics of each plant in the book. Maybe I'm just lazy, but it would have been nice if they also divided the lists in compatible plants for a single pot. I am new to gardening, so I may be missing something, but each plant analysis talks about the lighting, soil, watering, and fertilizing requirements. Obviously, mixing plants that require shade with those needing sun will create a problem for one or the other. Then there is also the question of one needing more water than the other. Or different soil mix. Or different fertilizing strengths and frequency. Would have been nice if they just said that plants from Group A can all be in the same pot and Group B in other pots and Group C and so on. That would leave the reader to chose from among those compatible plants. This book does provide all that information but leaves it to the reader to divvy up the plants into compatible groupings. Like I said, I'm new to gardening and perhaps lazy. Sorry. Still, this is a worthwhile purchase.

LOVE this author! The way he lays out his books for gardening are so easy to follow, pictures, alphabetical orders, ease of directions/planting information. LOVE. And he has a quick easy glossary reference. Best, hands down author on midwest gardening. Bought all his books.

Good book but not what I was expecting after buying several other books by the same publisher. Book talks about lots of plants that can be grown in containers. Was hoping that it would talk a little more about vegetables and more common plants instead of the more exotic things that it talks about.
