From the Back Cover

In a world that honors outward achievement, tells people they’ll never have enough, and encourages an impossibly busy life, peace and contentment can feel like a distant dream. But Dr. Richard Swenson shows that it really is possible. We can experience the contentment we long for—the peace, the fulfillment, the joy. It’s available for our relationships, our finances, our career, our spiritual walk, and every aspect of life. But it is found in only one place: in Christ. Come along on a journey of discovery and uncover the simple truths and practices that inspire a truly contented life.

It seems easy to lose life in the midst of living. The pull of the world's manipulation can be quite strong even when one knows it is not life-giving. Dr. Swenson's book on contentment helps to define that sense of loss of control and gives clear "prescriptions" for getting back to life that is true living. Knowing that people are all prone to drift, there are a few books that deserve to be read again and again to provide mid-course correction in the direction of one's life. This book is one of those books.

A great reference to highlight and review. Contentment is a journey and Dr. Swenson's "Rx" lists throughout the book cover a lot of good ground, are Biblically based and broadly validated through a remarkable variety of theologians, writers and thinkers of many millennia.

There are a lot of great take away quotes that can become life quotes. Example: "Live your life in such a way that if God didn't exist your life wouldn't make sense."

I bought this as a Kindle edition but will get a good used copy to mark up and keep by the bed to review daily.

This book is informative as well as right on target with the author's intent to give applicable advice. This book is both soothing and riveting at the same time. I would say this guy has our society pegged, he is unassuming and his work is a pleasure to read.

Contentment is something I have struggled with for most of my life. It is something I have always desired - and yet have found lacking - mainly because of the way I think about life. This book is full of discerning insight about why I have struggled - and what to do about it. Swenson's writing style is pleasant, and he sticks to Biblical faith throughout. I recommend it to those who, like me, desire peace.

This book is unlikely to become a bestseller in America, nor even in the church. Dr. Swenson both teaches and lives a radically Christ-centered life while remaining engaged in the materialistic society one can imagine. Very helpful if you wish to swim upstream against the tide of loving things which can be purchased with $$.

Every parent with a kid going out into this world--off to college or getting married--should read this book with that kid. I wish I'd read this 20 years ago. Thankfully, it's not too late and its message is so powerful and relevant that you can't help but to want to grow more content in your life. Read this book with someone because you'll be bursting to talk with someone about everything you've read.

Having just finished this book, I want to go back and read it again. So much wisdom is packed into these pages. I feel like it deserves at least a second reading to mull over the biblical lessons of contentment. Thank you, Dr. Swenson.

Great book as all of Dr. Swenson's books. It gives you the perspective of other people through out history from many different back grounds. It is encouraging me to get rid of extra stuff in my life and to have a more restful attitude. I am half way through it as I need time to process the information, it is a deep thinking type of book. It is like a big meal for the soul.
