This is the best coffee mug I have ever owned. bottom line: lives up to its promise. I actually forgot this mug in my office before a meeting and when I came back for it six hours later the coffee was still STEAMING. Bewildered by some of the negative comments... Why invest the time to log on to Amazon and complain but not take 67 seconds to read the enclosed instructions?? The rubber on the lid tastes funny? Wash the lid with soap and water before first use... AS INSTRUCTED. The cup overflows when you put the top on? Do not put liquid past the fill-line... AS INSTRUCTED. Yes, you just about fit an entire Dunkin XL (24 oz) inside if you go past the fill line, but this is sold as a TWENTY oz cup. So imagine that, overfilling it can cause it to overflow! Who knew? I burned myself because the coffee was too hot and/or I didn't know how to control the flow of liquid...? Surely that's a joke. Hot coffee is hot and this product is designed to keep it hot for a long time (which it does better than any other competing product I have tried in 2 decades). As for use... The, err, "drinking slit" (sorry, unfamiliar with technical coffee kid nomenclature) is exactly the same shape and location as that on every take-out coffee lid everywhere on earth. If you can't figure out how it works, go to the nearest Dunkin donuts or Starbucks or freaking McCafe and watch someone else drink a coffee. It is a fairly intuitive process.

We've owned several other Contigo models and have been very pleased. This is the first time we bought one that's not with brush aluminum finish, and I'm afraid that it will be the last. The blue paint is peeling badly with less than two months of use. If you're thinking about buying one (and you should - it keeps drinks hot or warm for a long time), don't bother with painted ones and stick with brushed aluminum finish.

We're already fans of the Contigo travel mugs, but Contigo's got a few improvements on these newest models and we now love them even more!

First of all, I love the sleek black color of the West Loop mug. It's very cool. I assume, however, from past experience, that the color will scratch eventually. My husband has a physically active job and his coffee mugs get dropped and dented..a lot...and we've lost color on past mugs. This doesn't bother me much, as I believe most people won't be quite so rough on their appliances. But do note that the color will likely scratch off under extreme circumstances.

The drip-free feature is a no brainer. As I already mentioned, hubby's rough work situation has lost a lot of coffee pre-Contigo – so this is our favorite perk of these mugs! Even with the harsh treatment our mugs have received in the past, we've never had a problem with leakage, but the new lock feature on the West Loop mug make an already great feature, better!

Now for my favorite part of the newest West Loop Stainless Steel Mug: the cleaning! Contigo has designed a way for you to very easily pop up the mechanics inside the lid of the mug making cleaning a breeze! No more 'mysteries' growing under the cap! Another wonderful improvement for this wifey who does all the dishes (by hand, I might add)! ;-)

Contigo mugs are a bit on the expensive side – but we find them deserving of the price! They are well constructed, truly leak-proof, and keep your drinks hot/cold for hours. The newest improvements make these mugs well worth buying!

After looking at all the reviews, I was almost positive that nothing would go wrong with this purchase. I went ahead and bought it and used it over this past weekend.

Couple of things which are really good:
1) Design of the mug - top notch and feels that lot of effort was put into the design.
2) Keeps the liquid hot for long periods - not much of use to me as i drink anything quickly.
3) Packaging and instructions were very clear and easy to follow through
4) Cleaning of the mug and the cap is very easy
5) Works with my Keurig K45
6) Works with my Camry and Sienna cup holders. No problem like in few other comments.

Now, regarding the "other" pieces:
1) After drinking coffee/tea/water, i could clearly see the liquid coming out of the autoseal button (see my pics). The leaks were really horrible..initially, I thought it was me...but after drinking multiple ways, it would continue - I hope this is a manufacturing defect...as others seem to be ok and have not problems
2) Coffee tastes horrible - it still has the odor from the plastic...maybe i have to wait for a couple of days to get rid of the odor.

The basic reason i got this mug was that i could use it for my 45 min drive....if it keeps on leaking through my drive, it defeats the very purpose of being a travel mug....no matter what other bells and whistles this product has. Going to return this.

I am a fan of the Contigo stainless mugs, and had two already. The problem was that you couldn't ever fully seem to clean the lid. The new lid makes this way better.

This was already the best travel mug (grown-up sippy cup) going and now it's even better.

Pros:
1. These mugs are so great, you can invert them when full and not spill anything. Even with the old cap, I would on occasion put a full mug of coffee in my purse when my hands were full.
2. That was a little dangerous in that something inside the purse could release the button. The new lid has a locking mechanism to make shenanigans like putting a full mug of coffee in your purse even safer. (Note: It is foolhardy to do this, even with the new lid. I don't recommend you travel this way. But if you need to, there's a good chance everything will be fine.)
3. The new lid opens up for cleaning, so that you can get a brush in there to clean things out.
4. You've always been able to run the lid through the dishwasher (It wasn't as helpful with the old lid, because so much was interior and not easily accessible.) You will still want a brush, though, because there's lots of nooks and crannies.
5. The mug has a really nice form factor... it's nice to hold in your hand.
6. I like the large capacity of this... it's just the right size for me.
7. It's easy to open the lid for sipping with one hand (you open it while you drink / push the button while you drink).
8. Stainless steel double wall construction: it won't hold flavors and will keep things warm longer.

Indifferents:
1. Consider getting the stainless (non colored) version, since then the bottom part will go through the dishwasher, too.Read more ›
