From the manufacturer
For the past 12 years, we (the passionate and meticulous employees at Ignite USA) have put creating innovative solutions at the forefront of everything that we do. It all began with an idea to eliminate spills with a coffee mug that sealed between sips. From there, we engineered a patented technology called Autoseal to deliver on that groundbreaking idea. We received such great feedback that we decided to jump in and start to revolutionize the whole beverageware category (travel mugs, water bottles, tumblers, kid’s bottle, etc.) In 2014, we were acquired by Newell Brands and we continue to develop innovative solutions for everyday needs.

Using Your New Travel Mug
Heat check. Careful! Your freshly brewed coffee might be very hot. Let it cool down with the lid off for a few minutes before attaching the lid and heading out the door, and keep the hot coffee out of the reach of children (kids shouldn't drink coffee anyway).
Do's and don'ts. We don't recommend carrying filled travel mugs in your bag while on-the-go (it's safer for your cell phone this way). Also, keep your travel mug out of the microwave and the freezer.
Clean up. Contigo travel mug lids and any unpainted stainless steel bodies are top-rack dishwasher safe for a quick, easy clean. Painted stainless steel bodies are hand wash only. Visit our official website for more care and use information.

UPDATE: NEW LID! (See Pic: Old Lid (left) vs. New Lid (right)).
I was contacted by Contigo regarding my concerns about the lid. Fortunately, they offered to replace my mug free of charge with a NEW lid (hooray lifetime warranty!). The newer lid has a different design on the interior and is EASIER to screw on than the old lid. Also, the spout opens wider so that more liquid pours out whereas the old spout only opened a little bit.
After reading a subsequent review, it appears that the cap on this thermos may have been redesigned, therefore this original review might not be relevant anymore. And if the lid has been improved, well I would still give if 5 stars (unless 6 is a possibility).
As others have said, this is a great mug and I love it. But the problem I have is that it is too hard to push the lever upward, which opens the drinking hole, especially when the lever and your hands are wet! The mechanics of the problem are that the open/close lever is held closed by a rise/bump.tongue thing that the locking lever down, but not with a smooth and rounded bump. Instead, the bump has a level side with a 90 degree angle. This means that the recess on the lever must overcome that level lock side that holds the lever with too much grip (I hope this makes some sense).
So the solution for me was to use a knife/tip/edge to change the shape of the locking bump/tongue to make it more like a smooth mound instead. Do this by scraping off the right angle edge on that bump, on the bottom part of that tongue/holding bump. (See picture of the knife edge, which is pointing upward and ready to scrap down the right angle edge on the bump to make is a smooth more rounded edge on that locking bump.)
With this minor modification, the close lever is held down the same bump, but with a somewhat rounded edge. This allows the lever to be released (and to open the drinking hole) with much less upward force. Works great for me!
I tired to take a picture of the stretched out O Ring, it's hard to see on camera but you can see it. It comes out extremely easily (which O Rings should never do)
I HIGHLY suggest you look elsewhere, I am looking for a better one right now. I guess you get what you pay for, and a $12 tumbler is worth it's weight in manure
Also it is NOT Dishwasher safe, hand-wash only which is a PITA (not the organization) when you don't like doing dishes like me and would rather throw them in the dishwasher. Even if it was just the top that shouldn't go in there that would be better, but both the top and bottom (the can) is not dishwasher safe as it will probably melt the crappy handle it had. Well the handle is "nice", but will definitely melt under the hot water of the dishwasher
Do not buy this. You will regret it down the road.

This mug worked great for a few weeks, and then all of a sudden started leaking heavily from under the lid, and the rubber band that sits on the inside of the lid looks like it's stretched out? I've only been washing with warm, soapy water by hand. My tea has also stained the inside of this mug.
Contigo is a great brand but this travel mug is a huge, massive miss .It spewed angry hot water all over my hand today (thankful that it wasn't my face when I went to take a sip) and I now have a first degree burn. I do not recommend this mug to anyone.
My main reason for choosing the Byron over another Autoseal was mainly due to the change in design of the lid. The Autoseal had a screwtop lid which housed the spring mechanism which 'auto seals' after you let go of the button. Unfortuantely this makes it almost impossible to clean properly as these moving parts inside the lid cannot be removed for maintence meaning that there is always brown coffee gunk stuck up in there (not good). The design of the Byron however means that it is very simple to clean the inside of the lid as there is nothing to get in the way.
Snapping the lid open can be a bit tricky with one hand as it seals very tightly. Probably a good thing as it means it is very unlikely to spill.
This mug is nice and large and means I can enjoy coffee throughout my entire morning since it easily keeps its contents hot for at least 4 or 5 hours. My main problem with this travel mug (much like my Autoseal before it) is that the metallic finish gets scuffed and rubs off far too easily. It is possible to scratch it off with your fingernail without too much effort (see attached photo). If you keep your travel mug in some sort of bag than you can pretty much guarantee that the painted finish is not going to last very long. I wish they had put more coats of laquer over it to properly protect it. Worth pointing out that I have only ever hand washed the container in warm soapy water so I can't blame the dishwasher for ruining the finish of the mug. I will no doubt end up having to use some paint remover again like I did on my previous Contigo Autoseal to remove all of the paint to take the mug back to plain metal to try and make it look better than it currently does (be careful if you do this to fully wash and rinse the mug).
The mug was ordered through the Amazon Global Store program and was delivered in less than a week from the USA. Well worth the wait as it was almost half the price of the equivalent item in the UK amazon store.
