From the manufacturer
For the past 12 years, we (the passionate and meticulous employees at Ignite USA) have put creating innovative solutions at the forefront of everything that we do. It all began with an idea to eliminate spills with a coffee mug that sealed between sips. From there, we engineered a patented technology called Autoseal to deliver on that groundbreaking idea. We received such great feedback that we decided to jump in and start to revolutionize the whole beverageware category (travel mugs, water bottles, tumblers, kid’s bottle, etc.) In 2014, we were acquired by Newell Brands and we continue to develop innovative solutions for everyday needs.

Using Your New Travel Mug
-Careful! Your freshly brewed coffee might be very hot. Let it cool down with the lid off for a few minutes before attaching the lid and heading out the door, and keep the hot coffee out of the reach of children (kids shouldn't drink coffee anyway).
Do's and don'ts.
- We don't recommend carrying filled travel mugs in your bag while on-the-go (it's safer for your cell phone this way). Also, keep your travel mug out of the microwave and the freezer.
- Contigo travel mug lids and any unpainted stainless steel bodies are top-rack dishwasher safe for a quick, easy clean. Painted stainless steel bodies are hand wash only. Visit our official website for more care and use information.

UPDATE: NEW LID! (See Pic: Old Lid (left) vs. New Lid (right)).
I was contacted by Contigo regarding my concerns about the lid. Fortunately, they offered to replace my mug free of charge with a NEW lid (hooray lifetime warranty!). The newer lid has a different design on the interior and is EASIER to screw on than the old lid. Also, the spout opens wider so that more liquid pours out whereas the old spout only opened a little bit.
The mugs are good quality and cheap in price. They look good, with a sleek minimalist design.
The hole you have to drink out of however is very small. So much so that if you like to gulp your coffee, this isn't the mug for you. This bothered my wife so much that she couldn't use hers. I must be a coffee sipper because it never bothered me.
The pic shows my several years old green Contigo still looking like new along side my new Gunmetal mug.
Update: I had to lower from 5 stars to 3 as the quality of Contigo has gone down. This is the second insulated bottle I buy, as the first one was lost at the airport after a year of usage. This new one, after only 6 months has already lost the clear lacquer on the top metal part and showing some rust (the brown arrow shows the area). Also the rubber part wasn't glued as well as my first bottle and the gap has a tendency to get dirty and rusty (white arrow). And finally, the lacquer is also starting to peel on the bottom part (red arrow).
These are all esthetic faults. I hope Contigo is aware of the lower quality and trying to fix it. If you don't care about any of these details, then you'll be a satisfied customer. It's a very well insulated bottle and the price is right. (I also like the fact that I can leave the flap open to cool down my hot drink. I use this bottle every morning and every time I travel. I bring myself some tea bags and all I need is some hot water during my flights. Very convenient.)
Hoping this review helps you.
On the other hand, I laughed off the reviews criticizing the snap lid. I thought I was too smart to leave it open. I was wrong. One afternoon I left the mug in the side pouch of my backpack and tossed it into the back of my girlfriend's car. This is not advisable.
I now double-check the lid to make sure it's closed. I'd rather not sleep on the couch.
I agree with other reviewers that the lid is difficult to open at first, but the reason for one star reduction is actually something else....
The lid is a great design, don't get me wrong please. It does its job well in that it really is effective at keeping the liquid IN the cup when sealed!
The ONLY issue I have is, I feel like there should be some sort of pressure release on this thing somewhere!!
They warn you not to put too hot of a liquid in and close the lid right away. Makes total sense, as if there is enough air inside with the hot/steamy liquid, the air will expand due to heat and will pressurize the container and ultimately make it extremely difficult to open the lid up. Could also burn you when you finally do open it and take a sip, because it really does keep things HOT for a long time!..... BUT even that is not totally the concern I have...
I used mine to make a mixed drink one night, Add ice, some good bourbon, and then cola to top "fill line"..... Then here was my error.... I added the lid to the cup, sealed it, and gently swished around to mix the drink.... OOPS!!!!
DUH. Carbonated liquids, A.K.A. sodas/colas/etc, release gas and fizz when agitated. --In this now very, VERY well-sealed container, I had placed carbonated liquid and agitated it with VERY little room in the container for the gas to go. Liquid, of course, doesn't compress. And this container really does NOT leak.
It developed so much pressure that I couldn't get the thumb lever to move! Mind you, I'm over 6' tall and while not a muscle head, I'm no wimp either. This cup was kicking my ass.
I ultimately took it outside, sat down, placed it between my knees, gripped it with both hands, and used the strength of both thumbs to press the lever upward and get the darned thing open. At the angle I had to hold it, liquid was present where the cup opened up when I finally got it to release. I was greeted with a violent shot of cold mixed drink to the face. Nothing bad but I think my pride was hurt a little. Would have been really nice if there was some way to release that excess pressure without the "battle royal" with my mixed drink! Oh well, lesson learned.
I STILL LOVE THE CUP. just know now to keep that lid OPEN with carbonated beverages in there, at least at first when the cup is very full :)
