I wanted to love this mug sooo much, but it was just average. The mug looks beautiful and very attractive, and it's pleasant to sip out of WITHOUT the top on. With the top on you basically have to suck the liquid out, since there's no air vent. But the most detrimental thing for this mug is that the ceramic appears to be VERY thin. When I'd put hot tea or coffee in it, the ceramic top would get hot-to-the-touch almost instantly. Lastly, telling you not to drop this thing would be an understatement. I didn't drop mine from any height, it literally just was tipped over onto its side and cracked!

I absolutely love my Contigo travel mugs... but their foray into desk mugs is pretty average at best.

I do like this ceramic coated stainless steel insulated coffee mug for my morning coffee. As far as the lid I tried drinking out of the cup with it on and found that without a vent the coffee flow was restricted. I drilled a 1/8" hole on the opposite side of the lid as I had noted in a previously written review and that helped but my lips can only take so much of the heat that is transmitted to the plastic lid. Personally I don't trust a lid that just slips on top of a mug. So my next action I took was to remove the plastic lid and use the mug without the lip-burner. I find that the Contigo Thermo Ceramic 14-Ounce Desk Mug works best for me if I add hot water to the cup and let it set while brewing my coffee to get the cup heated up. The coffee stays fairly hot to my last sip. I also find that the handle is user friendly and cool to the touch. I find that the base of the cup is also user friendly with the furniture as it is cushioned with a rubberized material and protects against heat transfer although I still use a coaster from habit (wife enforced). I am pleased with this coffee mug and would recommend it to anyone looking for a coffee cup.

I really like this cup yet, like others, found the lid hard to drink from. I corrected this drilling a 1/16 inch hole in the lid opposite the opening. This allowed an entrance for air allowing the liquid to free flow. It is no longer spill resistant, but much more drinkable.

Everyone that sees me with this mug asks me where I got it and how much it was. I have chemical sensitivities so I was looking for a safe less toxic travel mug with a top. It is PBA free and it's mostly ceramic and stainless steel. The handle and bottom are a hard rubbery/plastic material (which is not my ideal because I try to avoid that due to my husbands rubber allergy) and the top is a hard plastic with a small rubber lining. I tried to find one with a ceramic or metal top but they are hard to come by so I only use the top sparingly. I don't like the silicone tops so the hard plastic was a better alternative. May try some more from this company as I see some with metal lids now. Good service and reliable. Thanks & happy shopping!

I love my Contigo travel mugs and thought this desk mug would be a good choice for home use. It is not. The top has a TINY hole to drink through and the mug doesn't keep my coffee any warmer than a heavy ceramic cup. I am very disappointed with this product.

I bought 1 of these because the picture looks nice. Now that I have it, I don't like it.
- The porcelain makes it too heavy. Empty it's 1lb .4oz. With 12oz of liquid in it, it weighs almost 2 lbs.
- the handle is too small. I wear ladies 7 gloves & can only get 3 fingers in the handle.
- you have to drink carefully from the lid or it will dribble. Probably needs an air-hole drilled across from the opening like others have said, but I'm not going to use it, so won't bother doing it.

At the same time I ordered this mug, I ordered a Trudeau SS Donoti desk mug. It's double-walled, weighs only 8.8 oz empty, is the same height, 5 3/8", & holds 15oz of liquid. The lid on the Trudeau fits more securely & is closeable, & has a larger tab making it easier to remove. Both have non-skid bottoms, require hand-washing & are not microwaveable.

This mug, and its company, are fantastic. When I first bought this mug 3 years ago, it was everything I wanted in a mug. Insulated, stylish, and large enough for a can of soda. The handle is pretty awesomely large too. Six months into the purchase, the bottom fell off. I emailed Contigo on their website and explained my situation and sent them a pic of the problem. Within a couple of weeks, I had a new mug with zero hassle. It's now been two and a half years and the bottom is still firmly attached to the mug so I'd have to say it was a fluke. I use a different mug now but my girlfriend uses this for her coffee and loves it as well. It literally goes in the car and the office and back home every day so I'd say that's a good wear and tear test.

I wanted an insulated desk mug and I wanted ceramic rather than plastic, but unfortunately this Contigo mug does not do the job. As others have pointed out, the lid is poorly designed. It is hard to drink from it--you have to carefully suck the liquid out of the small opening, and it doesn't have enough room for your upper lip to reach over the rim of the mug. Also the lid is insecure--held in place just by friction--and it could fall off easily. Another big problem is that the mug is poorly insulated. A well-insulated mug should not lose much heat through the its walls, but this one warms up fairly quickly. I have a 14 oz ceramic/steel TasteGuard Travel mug by Bubba (a model not sold on Amazon) that has well-insulated walls (the outside stays cool) and a very secure lid. Even without the lid my Bubba keeps coffee hot almost as long as the Contigo does with its lid; and with its lid on, the Bubba keeps my coffee so hot that I sometimes remove the lid for a few minutes to let my boiling hot coffee cool enough so I can drink it. For any kind of mug, your coffee will stay hot longer if you pre-heat the mug by filling it with hot water (hot tap water will do) for 30 seconds or so before you fill it with hot coffee. I am returning the Contigo mug for a refund.
