The Bluetooth interface allows you to frame and adjust your shots prior to recording. For that, it is very useful (when it works, see below). It is not intended to give you live footage, and as soon as you switch to recording, it will disconnect.

Unfortunately, in practice, this is extremely frustrating to use. It doesn't pair with some Android or iOS devices at all. With others, it loses connectivity, and it may then either reconnect, or maybe you have to unpair and then pair again.

Even all of that wouldn't be so bad if the camera would reconnect automatically, like other Bluetooth devices. However, reconnecting requires first pushing the "hidden" button on the camera for several seconds--an area of soft plastic somewhere in front of the recording button--until the LED on the underside of the camera turns from green to blue. It's hard to feel the button, it's hard to press, if you don't press it steadily, it won't connect, and in many mounting positions, it's hard to see the light turn from green to blue too.

Altogether, this is a nice idea, but it is poorly implemented. Note also that a phone screen is really too small to make sure that your shots are properly framed; for best results, use a tablet.

You have a VERY small chance that this item will work for you. Check the Contour support forums for the massive "Bluetooth consistently disconnects about 10 seconds after connect" thread. Most people (me included) cannot use the card because it hangs the camera, and/or the iPhone/iPod after a few seconds to minutes of connection.

I bought this card the day it came out, and over the last months it's been completely useless. Please don't make my mistake! Save your money and see if Contour ever fixes the issues. Then and only then even consider parting with a penny, let alone the thirty bucks they and Apple demand for this component. (Note that this card is only needed because of Apple licensing restrictions, there's no technical reason why pure bluetooth shouldn't work without it.)

I've been playing around with the connect view card for a few days. So far not blown away. I love the fact that you can now change the setting on your camera without a computer, You also get battery life info, which is very important to me.

What I wanted was the ability to see what i'm recording with a live feed. Nope, can't do it. You can only use the live feed to line up your shot, which the app and website clearly say. Once you line up your shot and hit record, you loose the signal and no more live feed. This makes no sense to me. I hope future updates and hardware will fix this.

I would be nice to control the record function and see what you are recording. This would would be a killer combination and would make the contour cameras miles ahead of the competition.

First off, dont expect nice, fluid, high quality video from this.. It is more like a store security camera video that you see in the news... At least on my iPhone 4 with firmware 4.3.3.

Why is bluetooth not enabled at startup??? I have to turn it on every time I turn the camera on?? (a real pain with gloves on) Fail...

To change this from a 2 star to a 4 star review, give me two options.
1. The option to have bluetooth enabled from bootup.
2. The option to leave bluetooth enabled during video recording.

For a 5 star review, do numbers 1 and 2 and make it more stable and less choppy..

I purchased this in order to be able to use my iPhone to change the settings of my ContourGPS on the fly without needing a computer. For this it works very well.

It isn't without quirks, though. I've found that the Bluetooth connection between my iPhone and the ContourGPS will often break in certain situations. If I spend too long on the options screen the BT connection will drop. I've also never had GPS Assist work successfully. This feature is supposed to allow your iPhone to share its GPS location with the Contour to help it gain a lock quicker. Every time I've attempted this the BT connection breaks after a few minutes and before the GPS location was shared between the devices. With the latest ContourGPS firmware I've found that the camera gets a good GPS lock fairly quickly on its own so the GPS Assist isn't a big deal for me, but it would be nice to see this problem addressed.

In all I'm still glad I bought this. It is the best (and only) way to adjust the settings on the camera without the need for a computer.

I was able to use this as described, but not without some difficulty.

As soon as you start recording, the bluetooth disconnects. However when you stop recording, it does not come back. In fact, to get it back I had to eject the battery and "reboot" the camera.

The general utility of the camera would be enhanced if the video could be viewed live. I don't need full streaming, just a frame or two per second would be fine, even at a greatly reduced resolution.

This has the feel of a new feature that still has bugs. I'm sure in a few firmware revisions there will be great improvement. This is well worth the cost now, even if it is a bit rough around the edges.

This feature could expand the applications that this camera is useful for, so I see it as a great improvement. But despite that, it does fall short of my expectations. I read that this provided a viewfinder function, and it really doesn't do that, yet.
