Caroline agrees to the marriage because her very inept and unprofessional business management has left her facing bankruptcy and her parents losing the home they offered as collateral for Caroline's business. She needed the money and marrying Brandon paid handsomely.
Connie Cox is a very capable writer and I have read other books by her that I liked, but this one was not up to her usual standard. Contractually Yours was a complete fairytale without a smidgeon of reality.
My idea of a great relationship is one where the parties in the relationship bring out the best in his/her partner. In this story, that's what it is. Brandon who was an unwanted child had a reputation of being ruthless. In actual fact, he was just protecting himself from being hurt again. Caroline came into his life and changed him, bringing out the best in him. I thought the ending was really romantic but I shan't go into details here.
My only complain about this book is that it was way too short; longer than a novella but shorter than many novels I've read. Do hope that Connie can write longer stories with the same depth as this one.
