Caroline agrees to the marriage because her very inept and unprofessional business management has left her facing bankruptcy and her parents losing the home they offered as collateral for Caroline's business. She needed the money and marrying Brandon paid handsomely.
Connie Cox is a very capable writer and I have read other books by her that I liked, but this one was not up to her usual standard. Contractually Yours was a complete fairytale without a smidgeon of reality.
For Caroline and her company, Weddings Divine, this decision became easy. She was stuck with a elegantly planned wedding that was called off literally at the alter. This wedding was supposed to make her and it was since she had several upcoming weddings booked and business was great. Until the cancelled wedding which she not only didn’t get payment for but caused all the other brides to cancel.
Showing up that the person who cancelled the wedding’s office, Brandon read over the contract his former fiancee signed and knew that Caroline had no leg to stand on. He wasn’t responsible for this payment. However, Caroline had a DVD he needed and when offering her money she declined. On top of the visceral affect she had on him from the moment he looked at her and shook her hand, he needed to do something drastic.
The cancelled wedding had been the same - arranged. It was convenient for him to arrange a wedding so the tabloids would get off his back and he would not be the hottest bachelor and he could get on with his business. He still had a list of women that had been researched and checked but he went with his gut and offered the “position” to Caroline. Will she take him up on his offer?
With the affect that they have on each other will love get involved? Brandon has demons that he needs to deal with but with the sweetness and charm of Caroline she might be the one for him. But there’s another complication - she’s a virgin. Brandon can’t allow himself to fall for her and take their relationship to that emotional state that will hurt her when their arrangement dissolves. Will he learn to trust her? Can he see that she’s the one for him?
I loved this book. It’s wonderfully written and even though there are other characters it’s really about the two of them. Brandon & Caroline have such depth and enough differences to be highly entertaining. Brandon with his all business persona and Caroline with her sweet charm. This is a great story that moves along quickly but paints a detailed picture in your head. Loved!!!!
We meet Caroline two days after the worst day of her life. The high society wedding that she had pinned all her hopes, dreams and the loan from her parents on, was called off by the groom just moments before the wedding was to take place. Caroline had paid for much of the work out of her own account, being promised reimbursement when the wedding took place. Now that the wedding has been called off, and even the check she had received at the beginning had bounced, she looking at not only the lose of her business, but her parents house as well. So Caroline decides to take the bills directly to Brandon D'Estrahan, the groom who called off the wedding and who she was promised would be footing the bills.
Brandon D'Estrahan is a entrepreneur who does multi-million dollar deals around the globe. But his business deals are hurting because companies don't want to deal with a "playboy". His work around was to get married. Unfortunately, his first choice of wife turned out to already be married. When Caroline shows up at his office, looking for repayment on the wedding, Brandon makes her a deal - 6 months of outwardly wedded bliss and he will pay off all her outstanding creditors and save her parents house. In return for paying off the debts, she will outwardly be his wife, handle the charity commitments, plan and host parties and basically grant him the air of stability that he is currently lacking.
In many ways this followed the typical marriage of convenience troupe. However, as with everything, the devil is in the details. And the details on this one are quite wonderful. I was thoroughly sucked into the story and found myself rooting for Caroline and Brandon. She isn't quite the push over she initially appears and he isn't the hard-hearted villain taking advantage of her situation. There are some great secondary characters in the book and I look forward to finding out their stories someday. This book had me grinning and sniffling back a few tears. I gave it 4 stars.
