This mitt is ENORMOUS. Definitely not "one size fits most."
This might work for a beefy 6' man, but not for me (average woman, smallish hands). The thumbs were two inches too long and would have ended up pushing into cakes when I held the side of a casserole dish.

The magnet is on the small label tab and is definitely strong enough to hold the mitt to a metal surface.

BAD FIT! Bad grip.

Bought these because Cooks Illustrated rated them #1 and they can usually be counted on. I'm sure it's a fine glove as far as handling hot items bet there are a few major issues:

1. They do not fit like a glove. They're huge and have no form. It's like wrapping a bath towel around your hand. They are constantly slipping off and very awkward to handle items without a good handle. I wear XL gloves and these are nowhere near a good fit for me.

2. Material has no grip, so items without a handle are awkward to handle.

3. Unlike silicone, they soak up moisture and get soaked. They do wash well however.

4. Very expensive.

5. I know length is important but these are longer than they need to be in my opinion.

Used them once and tossed them. Bought the Homwe for 1/10 of the cost and much better.

Beware of Melting Mitts!

These were a great pair of mitts-- and I bought them under the recommendation of America's Test Kitchen even though they were so expensive-- until recently, when the heat resistance gave out almost entirely. On inspection, it seems like some of the insulating material by the thumb---which is the grip I use on hot pots and pans---melted and the glove began to open up holes in those locations. This made them really unsafe. I find this upsetting on several counts: first, they were about $60 for a pair of these, and at that price (which is about 400-500% of what I normally pay for decent mitts), I expect a product to last a long time. These lasted no longer than the Williams-Sonoma hot mitts that they replaced. And unlike those mitts, which developed hot spots over time, so I was aware of this happening, this change was sudden. That made them really unsafe. I am lucky that I discovered the melted area before my children did! And that I avoided a serious burn.

I don't understand what San Jamar is thinking. As far as I can find, this is about the best performing oven mitt out there. It's the only cloth mitt I've found that really stands up to heat. Suede isn't bad, but it has its limits as far as heat protection, and it's clumsy. So, why 3 stars for this? FIT. I read previous reviews that complained about the fit, but how bad could it be? IT'S BAD. I'm a 5'9" male, so my hands are probably about average for a man, a little large compared to an average woman. These gloves come in one size, and it's big. Not just a little big. Big enough to be clumsy. I bought two, and I use them, because I need the heat protection, and haven't found a substitute...but they're shockingly clumsy to use, far too large, and with tons of material truly just getting in the way. They're big and clumsy enough that I regularly stick the material in the hot food. That's never happened to me with any other mitts. If they'd just make these in a reasonable small/medium/large, they'd be a 5-star no-brainer. Get it together, San Jamar, while you still have a market.

Seriously, this thing is massive. Let me be clear that I HAVE BIG HANDS. I am a 6' 2", 200 lb. man. I can palm a basketball with ease. The packaging claims "One Size Fits Most". These must have been manufactured with the average grizzly bear in mind. I had my wife in mind, and she has relatively small hands.

The 13" length of this mitt compares in length to your average off-the-shelf oven mitt. In photos, it looks shorter. That's due to it's massive girth. I can fit both of my hands, and my wife's hands in this thing all at the same time. More problematic is the length of the thumb. It extends a full inch-and-a-half past the end of my thumb when I'm wearing it, making it prone to getting stuck in my food. The humongous size of this mitt makes it basically fall off my hand. I'm not saying it does that when I point my hand straight down and try to let it fall off, I'm saying that when I'm trying to use it, it slips off my hand, seriously jeopardizing my food and my own safety. I tried using it with a few of my All-Clad pots and some pans, and everything was slipping out of my hands.

As other reviewers have commented, be sure you realize when ordering that these are sold individually, NOT in pairs. I cannot comment as to the effectiveness of the heat insulation, but I'm sure it's good as advertised. Unfortunately, I'll be returning mine, as the fit is just absurd.

This was an expensive glove so I wanted to love it (so as not to regret my purchase). Alas. This glove only makes sense for when you are handling the biggest, heaviest, hottest things. It is true that it has superior heat protection to other gloves. However, you have no dexterity. It is just huge and bulky. Also, in addition to being bulky, it is not grippy. I strongly prefer Ove gloves, because with the separate fingers and the better grip I feel safer, even though they do not allow me to hold a hot pan for as long.

I bought one of these in 2012, after seeing it recommended by various magazines and comparisons. I love that oven mitt, and it's great.

HOWEVER, when I bought a new one in 2014, I got something that is nothing like the old one. The old one fit the hand well and made it easy to grip; the new one is hilariously oversized, and flops all over the place uselessly. I hate the new one as much as I love the old one.

I bought this mitt because I burnt my hand several times with some cheap ones I bought at Super Store and got tired of it. Found several reviews listing this brand in their top 10 or 20 lists, and couldn't be happier. I've held onto cooking sheets out of a 425-degree oven for more than a minute without issue and I've even grabbed something out of the oven after getting the outside wet and didn't get burned. Super easy to clean too. Also, they look better than in the photos. There's only a small section of yellow in the corner of the thumb and fingers.
