I'm not going to give a summary of this book. You've already read that in the description.
First, I'll tell you what I liked. (In no particular order)
1- I connected with Desiree as I got to know her. She is strong and courageous with strong values. I wanted to follow her to see how she learned and progressed.
2- I believed the relationship with Blake and how it developed. It was believable. I felt the struggles with Blake between his wants and his duty to the Convergence. I could also understand the struggles Desiree had with Blake, his decisions, and how she reacted to what was changing around her.
3- I wasn't bored or struggling to keep reading. I was engaged from start to finish.
4- the character development was strong. You understood the characters and their motivation. I wanted to see Desiree overcome and conquer all that was put in her way. I wanted to watch Blake's struggles and how his decisions affected both he and Desiree.
5- The timeline wasn't rushed. I didn't get every detail of every day, but that was okay. I didn't need it. The time in which events happened was realistic.
6- The possibility of these "abilities" and how they are used is believable. I liked that it is inside everyone, but not everyone has the ability to access it. How Desiree describes how it feels to use/convert the energy is spot on. It's also not some weird or useless power that is random. It's realistic in what it is, how it's used, and how, at it's core, it is the same for everyone , even when they can use/control it at different levels.
Now for what I didn't like:
..... Can't think of anything. I loved this book! I can't wait for the next one!!
I would rate the book between 4-5 stars because the beginning was a little slow for me. I was tempted to skip ahead and learn what Desiree's "special" ability was sooner. After you learn about Desiree's gift, boy does the book pick up the pace. It becomes a thriller, action packed with a purpose. I already bought Book 2, The Keep. I'm very excited about getting into it.
