It Works, But Maybe Not If You Want Lightscribe Printing

My IDE DVD burner stopped working and I needed a replacement.

Since the majority of DVD writers today are SATA, this converter came in handy.
Just plug the connector to the back of the SATA drive, then the IDE interface and power connectors to this adapter and you are good to go.

The isn't even an additional audio connection needed as this plays CDs and DVDs just fine.

My DVD burner is a lightscribe DVD and this connector didn't work for that. But lightscribe burning isn't that important for me, so I'm still happy with the adapter.

It works...finally

I was excited about this product as I needed to replace a bad CD-RW drive with a DVD-RW and had an IDE connector. This seemed like an inexpensive and simple solution to enable me to use an SATA drive. Most reviews rated it as plug and play. Well, maybe if you just have one drive and are replacing it, but I had 2 drives. My old computer with XP just would not recognize the drive. I changed the drive setup in the computer every way possible to no avail. I switched the jumpers on the other drive from S to M to C and nothing helped. Both drives were originally set to C (cable select) so I switched the other drive back to C. The SATA drive had no jumpers or settings so what to do? Finally I noticed a single jumper on the adapter below the power supply plug. I pulled it off and everything seems to be working now. If you have a problem with your computer identifying the drive, try pulling off the jumper.

I gave this 4 stars, not because it doesn't work, but for lack of documentation. A little documentation with this adapter would go a long way. What should have been a 10-15 minute job ended up taking about 2 hours-all frustration.

ONE worked- UPDATED

I bought 2 of these. One of them works perfectly as I upgraded my broken IDE CD drive to a SATA drive I bought on Amazon.
The working board was stained with a flux type material like it was never cleaned. At least it works!

The second board did not work. It got extremely HOT and had I not removed it- it would have either burned out or started a fire. It was burning HOT!!!
I have requested from the seller to contact me to correct this matter. I will update my review after I hear back from them

1 out of 2 working is not good odds but I understand they probably sell thousands of these and there will always be defects.. How the company handles this is what matters. Update to follow

UPDATE: I contacted the seller JACKIE replied. She was so nice to me. very good customer service. She shipped out a replacement board priority mail and it arrived the next day. I tested the board and it worked. This is the type company you want to order from. A company that values their customers and stands behind what they sell. My review went from an unhappy 2 stars to a happy 5 stars. Great service and I am happy!!!

Adapter SATA Burner to IDE Motherboard works fine.

Not yet having moved up to the newer SATA 3 or SATA 6 motherboards, my computers still have ribbon cables for the optical drives. I bought 2 SATA DVD burner drives a while back, and I've been looking for a good way to make use of them. I tried a more expensive Koutech IDE to SATA II adapter, but the burners didn't work with it. It was a very sturdy design, but didn't help my burner problem, though the Koutech adapter worked great when I needed to adapt a SATA hard drive to an IDE motherboard. I thought that my best optical drive option was to install a PCI SATA II IDE card in the computer, but those are more money than I wanted to spend.

Since this device was described specifically as "Covert SATA DVD Burner to IDE Interface Motherboard", as long as I was ordering a few other items from Amazon, I ordered one. (Just on the chance that this relatively inexpensive SATA to IDE Converter adapter might solve the problem.)

I un-plugged the DVD drive from one of my PCs, plugged the power and ribbon cables into the adapter, and the adapter into a new SATA DVD burner drive. Started up the computer, played a music CD fine, burned a DVD video fine, played the freshly burned DVD fine. It seems to operate perfectly. Just for reference, the adapter chip is a JMicron JM20330.

I noticed that someone asked "Where are master/slave settings?". The three answers referred him only to the jumper on the drives themselves.
The black jumper on the adapter (below the power connector) says "IN Master, OUT Slave", evidently meaning "ON Master, Off Slave". You probably just move the jumper onto 1 pin for Slave, (to save the jumper in case you later want to switch it back to Master). I haven't had it in a 2 drive situation though, so I haven't played with that.

The only problem I had was after testing the adapter and SATA drive, the IDE ribbon cable connector fit so tightly in the adapter connector that I was afraid to pull hard enough on the adapter to remove it. That adapter circuit board could break or bend enough to damage something. I used a very small screwdriver to pry the cable out of the connector on the adapter board. I didn't yet try to see if other ribbon cables fit as snug.

Got for use with a SATA LG DVD Burner...LG Electronics Internal Super Multi Drive Optical Drives GH24NSC0B.
Fit OK, no problem there, was a bit difficult to work with the drive in the Desktop. Had to disconnect the adapter, plug the Molex 4 pin in...and then reattach to drive...but worked right off the bat. Recognized by XP sp2 on a Dual Core Machine.
Good Deal.
