Solved my Power Up/Power Down Problem For MY Garmin Car GPS Power Supply

My 2003 Chrysler Cigarette lighter socket does not power down when engine is turned off. So my Cigarette outlet, plugged in for my Garmin GPS , stays on even after I shut off the ignition and leave the car. In the past, the GPS can be left on all night. The Stopped car's GPS battery drain is a risky problem.

This is the solution for my no shutdown problem. For my Garman GPS, I just turn on the 2-Socket's button when I start the car and then shut off with the button when I leave the car. This puts the Garmin on and then safely off. I don't have to Keep plugging-in & unplugging out the Garmin from the Cigarette Lighter Socket when parking or starting. The one button on the unit makes things sure & simple.

I use the 2nd hole on the Bestek unit to store my small remote for my retro installed Sirius Satellite Radio. Oddly, the Sirius radio goes off when I turn off the ignition. The Best Buy Pocono PA Sirius installer wired it to do so.

I purchased this splitter for the purpose of powering my Garmin DriveSmart 61 GPS, while at the same time keeping my Android smartphone charged through one of the USB ports. The smartphone is used to monitor current traffic and weather conditions, among other things, and, via bluetooth, feed that info to the Garmin, so that there is a constant power drain on the phone. The splitter has worked very well for that purpose in that all my power sources are in one package. The splitter fits nicely in any of the cup holders in both of my vehicles, and the 20" power cord is long enough to reach either of the cigarette lighter sockets. Some vehicle lighter sockets are hot all the time, and some are hot only when the ignition is on. This splitter will let you know when the socket is hot by an indicator light in the power plug, as well as displaying the DC voltage on the face of the splitter. Each power socket (12-24VDC) in the splitter is individually switched, with an indicator light within each socket telling you when it's on. My only criticism of this unit is that when a plug is in the socket the indicator light is difficult to see under high ambient light conditions. Otherwise, I'm very satisfied with this splitter.

It fit quite snugly in our cupholder. The only disadvantage is that we lost one spot should we need 2 cups on a holder. We were able to use it to the max during our recent road trip were my husband drove from New Orleans to Gatlinburg. We were charging 2 phones, 2 tablets along the way, and even hooked on our air freshener/humidifier. There were ports specified for Android and Apple, but it seemed the one for Apple was not working. It did work though when we hooked to another generic port. I am not sure if this is a flaw the manufacturer needs to look into.
