UPDATE 12/26/17: So far, I have tried this CSRET Converter on the following systems and it actually works quite well overall: Nintendo (1st Generation model #), Super Nintendo (1st Generation model #), Nintendo 64 (1st Generation model #) and Turbo Grafx (1st Generation model #). I'm not sure if this particular converter is a newer model of the last one I bought for a friend or not, but it does seem to work better than when i tested his with a couple of these systems.
The picture quality is very good for these systems. Now, if you are deciding whether to get this for your older systems, i would not hesitate. Please know that when I say quality of picture is very good for the systems, these are older systems and made for tv's of about 320 lines of resolution. I am playing the systems on a tv that is 4000 lines of resolution. My settings for the converter are at 720 lines. I have all four systems hooked up and ready to go by also using a 4 line in/out switch box.
I plan to also hook up my Playstation, Playstation 2, Sony Dreamcast and Atari systems in near future.
If you are thinking the graphics and video are matching PS3, PS4 or XBOX One or even XBOX 360, you will be disappointed. As I stated in past paragraph, these systems were designed for older tv's.
So, why would you get this converter?
You need this or a similar converter to convert game systems from a low grade quality and wiring into a higher quality and HDMI connection for your flat screen tv. If you try an older system directly to your tv, you will really be disappointed. I chose this converter to begin with for a friend some time ago so he could play his VCR through his flat screen tv that had no RCA inputs. It's worked well for him. I decided to get the CSRET Converter for myself so I could play my old gaming systems and am not disappointed. You can use this converter for a VCR and/or DVD Players that don't have HDMI out on them.
It does still feel a little cheap, but it works well. Make sure to hook the USB to your tv USB input or it will not work. This is your power for this converter. I tried to use USB input on my amp but it did not work and then used tv USB and no issues.
Original Post: As others have said, it does feel cheaply made and not the best quality, at least in feel.
I have tried this for my Turbo Grafx and though some improvement, it was still hard to play as the clarity is still not as sharp as I was hoping.
I also tried it on Nintendo 64 and it did very well here. Without this converter, the screen was choppy and blurry on my 65" LG 4k TV. When I tried it using this converter, it was like night and day. The picture was such clearer, colors looked better and game was very playable. No lag noticed when playing games.
I have not tried it on my other systems like Atari, Nintendo, Dreamcast, Sega or Playstation, I had to set the output to 720p and not 1080p. 1080p tries to give to much of an upgraded picture and these systems were not made like the games and systems of today. I like the games of yesterday though for simplicity and that you can be in the mood to play a game, put it in and turn on the system, then play. Simple, quick and easy. Today's systems and games, you turn on system, do updates, pluck in the game, more updates and maybe in an hour or two you can play your game....if you're still in the mood.
Overall, the CSRET Converter works for the most part, but it does feel very cheaply made. This was actually purchased for a friend so he can use his VCR on a TV with only HDMI inputs. I don't have any doubts that this will work fine.
