I've been testing this board (60W version) for a few weeks as a LiFePO4 battery charger. It is set to the final voltage of the battery (14.5V), then the current set to the max current I choose (2.5A). Charging works perfectly. The board behaves well and the hottest point on the board never gets too hot.

One area I did struggle with a bit was that it does seem to have a large in-rush current. I actually don't know if normal for the device category or whether there's something unusual about the board. On two different AC-DC converters I tried, large in-rush (both into the board itself, and the load) would cause the AC-DC converters to go into over-current protection, bouncing on and off unless I set the current to a very small value (<1A).

I predict that if you have a modest power supply (<5A, say) it might have the same issues.

I did find a nice solution, however. The board has terminals for a "Key" which is an enable/disable signal. I guess it's a large resistor (100K'ish) to the supply on one side and ground on the other. Short the terminals, and the high side is brought to ground and the unit is disabled. Accordingly, I put a small capacitor (1uF) between the terminals to hold the board off for a second or two on power up. This worked great, unless I disconnected and reconnected the board with a short time in between. In this case it was back to the bounce on bounce off behavior. I observed that the capacitor was holding its charge for a long time after power down, preventing the nice "off for a while on power-up" function. To fix this, I added a large resistor (1M Ohm) across the terminals and now it functions perfectly. I connect it and there is a small pause, then the supply ramps up to the correct value.

Of course you can still put a switch or push button across the terminals if you also need on-off control.

Like another reviewer, I'm using the 60W module to charge a LiFePO4 battery. At first, I had some trouble with the CC adjustment apparently not working. It would always run at the full 60W, or about 5A, regardless of how I adjusted the trim pot. I tried three of these modules before I realized that this behavior occurs only when I have the IN and OUT grounds in common, i.e. both attached to the same terminal strip. If I separate them so that there are completely separate grounds for the charging source (IN) and the battery (OUT), then the constant current adjustment works as expected. I'm not savvy enough to say why this happens, but just a heads-up for others who might try the same thing.

While my particular battery can accept a 5A charging current, when the module is running at its 60W upper limit the heatsink gets really hot. If limited to 2A (about 25W), the waste heat is significantly reduced, enough to be comfortable with keeping the module in an enclosed battery box.

I did also see the "bouncing" behavior mentioned by the other reviewer when using a smaller power source. The solution of a 1uF capacitor and 1M Ohm resistor soldered into the "KEY" contacts appears to solve this problem.

Deducting 1 star for the lack of any published data sheet or instructions, although some info is available via the Drok web site.

A good constant-current buck/boost converter

This buck/boost converter works as advertised, keeping voltage and current within a reasonable tolerance of what your set them to.

Setting the voltage is easy: While powered, attach a multimeter to the output terminals and adjust the potentiometer marked "CV" until you get the voltage you desire. The indicator on the board will not light below about 2 volts.

Setting the current is trickier, and also where I had an issue with the unit. Initially, I had the unit set to 5 volts, then set my multimeter to 10A DC current mode (which basically connects the leads together with a very low resistance shunt). My meter displayed 2 amps. Adjusting the "CC" potentiometer did not change this reading, even turning the knob all the way down (to what I later determined to be about 230 milliamps) did not change the current. However, when I attached a 37 watt TEC (peltier element; low resistance) inline with my meter, it shows the correct current values.

Overall, this unit seems to function properly, dropping the voltage to keep current constant, and keeping the voltage stable when current draw is lower than the CC setting. The board I received is also very clean, with very little flux residue on it.

Pros:
Synch Boost/Buck with a Great input range for Robotics and Low Voltage Power hungry and unpredictable input voltages. (Example Solar Panels and multiple Power Supplies of Different Voltages)
Greatly Designed Heatsink (Other than being on the bottom....)
Durability! This converter has great durability compared to it's rivals.
0/5 have failed with some questionable testing and accidents that have been done to them. All are in perfect order other than 1 pad being lifted from the + input terminal

Cons:
Output cannot exceed 20v (I needed 24 for one of my 100 projects of course)
Some undocumented items. (Example the "KEY" Slot. (Seems to be VIN -0.2 + and -, might be a disable jumper?)
Expense. Compared to other converters it is 24 dollars, and that is a bit high. (But no B.S. values or exaggerated values that can get you into trouble...)

Other: Bought 5 of them! They are worth 10 dollars on the competitors. *If you know what your doing you can adjust it and expand/change/hack it and make it work better for a prototype rather than the questionable quality of other circuits on Amazon. I would feel comfortable putting this in a prototype and running it continuously without burning structures down or bursting into flames.
