Perfect for this application, excellent construction and easy to use. This was to install LEDs light strip on a boat ramp (ya big fancy one). The boat is wire 24VDC and the best LED for the application where 12VDC. We did need only 3 amps max but this unit being all set and seal that make the chose a no brainner. We wire it an second and is working nice and cool. That thing can't be better in this application. And it's a cheap solution for stepping down the DC voltage. Very good, highly recommanded

I use this device to power my fish finder using a Rigid 18V drill battery. It works well, and powers the fish finder for several hours on just one 3AH battery. For the price it's pretty darn good, however, I would have liked the voltage to be up in the 12.9-13.8v range which is "industry standard" for automotive voltages in the US. There is also a slight amount of interference that it puts off which causes the fish finder to go wacky once in a while. This is solved by moving the regulator so it's not close to the screen (It's in an ice fishing bag, so it's not that easy to do).

I hooked it up to my 20v DC power supply and hooked the output wires to a fused connection with a switch that was turned off, and some 12V LEDs on the switched connection. I walked across the garage to grab my voltage tester but turned around when I smelled smoke and saw the thing spewing puffs of smoke. By the time I made it back to the box to unhook the input, the heat sink had been pressed off the rubber insides and smoke was pouring out. I'm glad, I guess, that it failed immediately instead of setting fire to the power wheels while my grandkids were driving it! Cheap crap.
