I love the idea of this book...however I purchased it for my son who is an Inmate at Branchville Correctional Facility, Indiana Department of Corrections after he asked me to find him a cookbook that could be used with "commissary food"...This was the only book I was able to find and I had it shipped directly to him at the prison which is the only way he can get books. I just received an email from him saying the book had been confiscated and he written up because the book is "plastic bound"....I'm very upset that a book made by Inmates in a Prison can not even be used by Inmates in Prisons. Hopefully they will allow him to send me the book so I will not have wasted $30 to purchase it as a gift for him.

Great Pproject For Prison Inmates

I read in a news article about this book coming out. There was a competition between Martha Stewart and her fellow inmates to get a cookbook done but these guys beat them to the punch. Some years later I became good friends with the editor of the book, so I really wanted a copy. I have worked in prisons for some years so I know about canteen recipes, and since I run a prison canteen now, maybe we will look at a second edition! The staff at Walla Walla were great to allow this project.

This is somewhat the book I wanted--could be better. The titles are sometimes misleading and the descriptions of the book have a lot to be desired. The first cookbook I ordered was not described very well and not at all what I wanted

This is simply a very fun and funny "cookbook" made up of recipes the convicts can make in prison or have fond memories of. Loved the humor! Don't buy this if you're a "foodie" expecting gourmet recipes. Buy this if you want to be entertained while supporting the Walla Walla
Children's Museum where all proceeds from the book are donated. The convicts that wrote this book wanted to somehow repay the generosity of Walla Walla organizations who provided fun activities for their children while they were incarcerated and unable to do so themselves They selected this organization because they knew their children would be welcome there.
Definitely worth adding to your cookbook collection!

if you collect cook books this is a must have. I have made a few dishes from it and there not bad there not great. I would say that it would be a nice charge of pace if you were locked up. a Great add to my collection
