The cover has rubber with circular shape in the edge. I thought it was part of packaging. But it is not removable.
Very strange. As I tested the rice cooker with just water, I could smell plastic!! Something is not right. I reviewed the instructions and none is given to resolve this issue. My next reaction is to return this item. I cook myself and I bought a few rice cookers in the past. I have never seen such a a design.
To be fair, maybe the plastic smell would go away. But I am not taking any chance.

I grew up in an Asian family where rice is a daily staple. My old 20+ year old rice cooker was not what it used to be, so I decide to buy this along with a more expensive Zojirushi one. The build quality is not as nice as the Zojirushi (hard to get the lid and steam cap out), but the rice came out perfect and I cannot tell the difference in taste/aroma/texture (and I am a rice snob). For the price, it is a great value as long as the reliability holds up.

We ended up returning the rice cooker because it's just massive. 16 cups is a LOT. Everything looked great and seemed fairly straight forward. The manual was not written by someone familiar with the English language and may take a bit to work out, but it's a fairly straightforward product to use.

I bought this product hoping the rice will keep warm at least more than 12 hours..well it was only overnight (about 7 hrs) ..the following morning the rice is cold as ice..it says the steam valve is removable for easy cleaning..well this one is not..the price is average ..but not the best quality. Inside close around the rim is made of hard plastic..not sure how this will hold its durability...I'm returning. Maybe I will just go to the store and pick up one that is a better quality.

I had used my new rice cooker to cook jasmine and basmati rice for a few times. The rice came out perfectly, cooked evenly from the top to bottom. I have not used the other functions yet. The only thing I only gave 4 stars was the after taste of either the rubber of the lid or the coating of the pot, absorbed into the rice . Anyway, the more using it, the less the order will go away.
