I was looking for cookie cutters so that I can cut out a small heart from a thin cake, as a centerpiece to Valentine's cupcakes. I bought the Cosmos brands over the Ateco brand for 3 reasons:
1. Cosmos product description said approximately 1-1/2 inches (1.5"), while the largest "mini" made by Ateco was listed as 1 inch (1"). However, several of the Cosmos mini cutters are closer to 1 inch (1") or 1-1/8 inches (1.125") based on my own ruler. By the way, the thickness of the cutter is 3/4 inches (0.75"). I had read several reviews of competitor products, where people were disappointed in the size, so I figured that these ones by Cosmos must be bigger.
2. Both a 4-inch round hard plastic clear storage case and a velcro strap are included by Cosmos, while Ateco provides only the plastic case, which can be tricky to get all the pieces to fit back inside like a puzzle. Of course, I could have used one of the 3M velcro straps that I already own.
3. Price. Both brands are relatively inexpensive, but the Cosmos was (supposedly) a little bigger and included a velcro strap.
The package was a nondescript resealable 8 inch x 6 inch plastic pouch with a plastic white bar code label "Cosmos Mini Cutt...ith Cosmos Fastening Strap XOOOAX9TMD". Eventually, I'd throw away the packaging, but this resealable plastic pouch could be reused to contain the mini cutters which is roomier than the plastic hard case and will keep the cutters clean unlike the velcro strap.
I searched the internet high and low trying to get a list of the shapes included. The shapes are a bit hard to recognize. The one product photograph looked good for the flower, but I'm not sure if cookies would retain the shape for all these cutters. I'll upload a few photos showing the mini cutters up close. For future reference, here's a list based on my guesses:
1) Heart, 2) Flower, 3) (Poorly shaped) Spade, 4) 4-point Star, 5) 5-point Star, 6) Cloud???, 7) Square-ish with rounded corners, 8) Tear drop, 9) Hexagon, 10) Triangle, 11) Gumdrop???, and 12) Unknown
I just received it in the mail (fast shipping by Amazon as always!). I have not used the product for baking yet. Not sure if I will keep it. So I don't know if the cookie cutters made out of tin will rust, since my other cookie cutters are all plastic. I doubt these are dishwasher safe, but nothing on the package or the product description says it can or cannot. I'm going to probably try Wilton again or Fox Run brand. I wish Cosmos made slightly larger ones since their price is competitive. To be honest though, it looks as if Cosmos and Ateco all use the same supplier and repackaged it under their own brands. By the way, based on photos, the mini cutters by Fox Run look more distinct in shape but are smaller in size.
Overall, I'm knocking off 1 star since the size was not completely accurate. The true size of these cutters range from 1-1.25 inches, mostly 1.125 inches. This product might work for your "mini" needs in the kitchen.

The price is right! These seem a tiny bit shoddy and some of the shapes strike me as weird. But they are exactly the shapes in the photo! They feel sharp and strong.
