Editorial Reviews

Review

“An encyclopedia of cookies. Oh yes. Buttery, chocolaty, fancy, fruity, spicy and nutty cookies fill the pages of this super cute book. It lays flat, too. Love that.”—Bakerella

“A spiral-bound cookbook bursting with more than 50 inspired cookie recipes, it’s set apart by fun extras: funky drawings, tips and tricks, copious room for recipe notes, and more.”—Grandparents.com

“All cookie lovers will enjoy preparing and improvising on classic cookies with this scrumptious cookbook.”—Library Journal

“For a decidedly fun, down-to-earth approach to baking, this one certainly looks the part: a notebook with a kraft paper cover, wire-bound pages, and simple line illustrations. But there's more to this than looks. While Adimando arms you with the basics, there's the intention and hope that you'll be inspired to create your own.”—Epicurious

“The Cookiepedia is written in a fresh, friendly style, like having a sister or a buddy in the kitchen with you.”—Sacramento Bee

“If you don't already own a great cookie baking book with standards and classics, this one will do the trick. If you own a million cookie books, you're still going to want this one. It's accessible, fresh, fun, and inspiring.”—Apartment Therapy: The Kitchn

“The recipes, delightful hand-drawn illustrations, and full-color photographs make [The Cookiepedia] an absolute delight.”—TucsonCitizen.com

“Totally fun…”—Chicago Daily Herald

“Every baker needs a go-to cookie book for basic standbys. This cute cookbook is it, and it makes the perfect stocking stuffer.”—FoodNetwork.com

Absolutely loved this cookbook. The recipes are very unique, some of my favorites are the cornmeal and rosemary cookie, chocolate crinkles and alfajores. I made several of the cookies for a cookie swap, everyone loved them. What I liked best about Cookiepedia is the clear concise directions and it is also fun to read. There is a handy space provided to add your own notes for each recipe. Even an inexperienced baker will be able to understand the recipes. The author has added helpful tips along with a picture of the cookies. This is truly a one of a kind book. Cookiepedia also makes the perfect gift for those that like to bake cookies. I gave Cookiepedia to several family members and friends. Cookiepedia makes baking cookies magical.

The Cookiepedia : Mixing, Baking, and Reinventing the Classics by Stacy Adimando is absolutely a must have cookie book.

The author sets out to create and recreate classic cookies, and has 50 recipes total and probably has your favorite. My favorite are Snickerdoodles and they are in the section with spicy cookies.

It begins with an introduction to the pans and the tools you'll need with a quick overview about what they are used for, then into "Cookie Speak" which defines common baking terms you'll see in cookie recipes. The next part of the introduction is about decorating cookies and various techniques and ideas for that.

Then the recipe chapters. Each chapter starts with a double spread of the cookies in that chapter, photographed and shown in true scale, and looking so good you wish you could pick them off the page. The chapters themselves are arranged by cookie flavor profile. Some of the cookies also have their own full page color pages so you can see nice ways to present them.

The recipes themselves start with a description of the cookie and an adorable illustrated oven with the pre-heat temperature and the number of cookies it makes. They also frequently have sidebar tips, as well as a suggestions after the recipe for ways to modify it, and lined note sections so you can add your own notes.

Buttery starts with frosted animal cookies, and has some very traditional cookie recipes in it, it also has frosted maple pecan cookies. Maple, butter, pecans, I'm drooling a bit.

Chocolatey has recipes for standbys like chocolate chip, but also has a cream filled sandwich cookie recipe which uses butter instead of grease for the cream filling and makes a cookie that will make you swear off the blue bagged cookies forever.

I bought this as a gift for a friend, but when it arrived and I took a look at all it's wonderful pictures and general cuteness I think I might just order one for myself! It has loads of different cookies nicely pictured and gives room for notes on each recipe should you have your own ideas or additions, which I love because I am somewhat of a creative cook. Buy it you won't regret it :D

I saw a review for this book on a blog I follow and ordered it for our home. My husband owns the kitchen in our house and I feel like the more inspiration gets the more likely I am to have yummy food around. The sugar cookie recipe in this book is worth the price alone. I love the design, spiral binding and the pictures of each cookie help gauge if you are on the mark with your version at home. I love classic sweets and if you do this is a must try.

Every recipe I have tried from this book has turned out prefect. It has become my go-to cookie book. The Gingerbread Men recipe has the perfect blend of spices, and the Animal Cookies with Frosting and Sprinkles were so good that friends and family always ask me to make them. I've yet to try a recipe that isn't delicious.

So many cookies, so little time. If I were to choose a cookie cookbook for a friend, this would be the one. It has all of the classics, plus some awesome treats I had never tried. The author makes all of the recipes very easy to follow with easy-to-find ingredients. I love the organization of this book, too. It's separated into categories like buttery, chocolaty, fruity, spicy, and fancy. I personally made the Animal Cookies, the Lemon Chewies, and the Pignolis and had to buy bigger pants. YUM!

I bake a lot of cookies. I made a few recipes from this book but nothing made me say - wow that was good I need to make it again. While the author's claim was reinventing the classics nothing seemed all that inventive. There may be a gem hidden the book and if you find it let me know. Alice Medrich has put out some really good cookie books with some very inventive recipes. "Great Cookies" by Carole Walter is definitely a go to book.
