I haven't had this book for very long, but I can see it becoming my go-to for week-day dinner ideas. The recipes all look really delicious and manageable, and I like that there's a picture accompanying each recipe. Many of the main dishes have a good balance of protein, veggies, and carbs, so I feel like I could just make one dish for dinner (and if it's not that balanced, the pictures and text have suggestions for a quick and easy carb and veggie side).

This is more than a recipe book too -- it also has so many tips for shopping, cooking, and managing children during meal time (both prep and eating) that it's a short and sweet parenting guide too. The parenting advice is very practical and reasonable, and the author doesn't pretend like there's only one right way to raise children, which I really appreciate. This would be a good gift for parent friends.

This really is a dinnertime survival guide. I've made several recipes so far and they've all be as easy as it says they will be and delicious. I also love knowing that the recipes are healthy without being "hippie food." The biggest endorsement of all was when my 10-year-old asked if she could give a copy to her best friend for her birthday. That's some cookbook!

I just received my copy last week and have since tried a couple of recipes. I loved the time-saving suggestions and ways to modify the recipes, and my family enjoyed the tasty and homemade dinners. This will be a great go-to resource when I'm in a cooking rut or don't have a lot of time to throw together a healthy dinner between kids' activities! The author also throws in some humor and has a 'do what works' attitude, which busy moms can appreciate. This is the first cookbook I've actually read from cover to cover, as the cooking and grocery shopping suggestions are truly helpful.

A wonderful, well written book! It's so much more than a recipe book-lots of written pages full of tips and suggestions for young, busy mothers. Sally also incorporates personal situations she has encountered with her children (some humorous). A good book to give as a gift to young parents as some of my friends have done.

As a busy dad of 3 boys, I found this book to be a welcome resource to change up our mealtime routine. It has the right mix of reasonable, healthy recipes that a busy family can put together in their hectic schedule. Highly recommended. We already have 2 new family-favorite recipes.

Sally is a tremendous writer! I loved this book. It is so much more than I ever imagined. She has artfully shared her heart and a great deal of wisdom and joy and love of family in this book, way beyond mere home recipes. What a pleasant surprise. None of my dozens of recipe books reflect this. They are strictly business as usual. While that is a good thing, this was so much better, bringing a real blessing to the reader, which in this case is a happier me!

I absolutely love this cookbook. I am a VERY busy mother of two, who also does not enjoy cooking that much. I love this cookbook because it has a lot of delicious recipes that don't take that much time to prepare. Although, it does still have some that do take a lot of time, if that is what you are looking for. It is a good mix of both. I LOVE that it also has a lot of cooking, shopping, planning, and other tips in it. As well as suggestions. I made one of the kebab recipes and I would have never known you are supposed to soak the sticks for 30 min before hand. But, that was one of the side tips she gave on that page. It is full of really yummy recipes, especially for the working, going to school, PTA mom, with 2 kids that are involved in everything. You will not be disappointed.

As a blogger who writes about kids and food, I'm frequently given copies of family dinner cookbooks to read and review. So I can say with some authority that the Dinnertime Survival Guide really adds something new and different to this crowded field. You can tell right away that the author is a real mother of two young boys, and not some food editor writing from a test kitchen somewhere. She really understands the obstacles most of us face in trying to get everyone to the table on a busy weeknight and then feeding them something they'll actually eat. So instead of being organized by food group or type of dish, the book is divided into common dilemmas, such as "I Can't Boil Water!" or "I Have Zero Time!" and then she offers recipes specifically tailored to address that challenge. There are few weeknight dinner books out there that are as well thought out and informative as this one is, and I can't recommend it highly enough for parents in need of help in getting dinner on the table.
