This cooler is about what you would expect from a near copy of the stock cooler that's currently being shipped (October 2009) with Intel Core 2 Duos. It is quieter than the stock cooler, but only just. Instead of a whining noise from the stock cooler, you get a less annoying sound of air being pushed around by this one. I only would consider this as a replacement for a stock cooler that broke, or if you have a bare chip, especially if you're going for a very low profile. The price is definitely worth the trouble too. (To note, "quiet" for me is somewhere around 15 dBA MAX acoustics, not nominal. Also note, that I tested this for stock and overclock configurations using a Core 2 Duo E8400 [3.0GHz].)

The mounts are horribly designed. Can't secure crap with it. Don't buy it. Please think about your CPU. Since the mount secure "DON'T" secure, the contact point from the copper piece to the CPU itself is loose. And if the CPU overheats, well. Start saving up for a new CPU chip. And maybe a new motherboard. Since that might be fried as well.

this is a well made product with a classic design made to fit inside tight spaces. while smaller and better than the stock cooler, you *will* get up to about 61c on the quad core unless you are in a high air flow tower. and of course if you were, you wouldn't need this you'd get something larger.
but in a HTPC this is great, just get better case fans if you run the quad core.

This is my 2nd try at a Cooler Master X Dream. Once on a Gigabyte P35 DS3L motherboard and this time on a Z68MA motherboard. Both times the pins did not line up with the holes no matter which way I tried. On my P35 DS3L I assumed it was a manufacturing defect in either the MoBo or the Fan, and since it was mounted horizontally I was still able to use it even though it wouldnt latch lock on all 4 pins (and it did keep the CPU very cool). This time around the motherboard was in a tower and again the pins did not line up. Stock intel CPU I can install in 30 seconds, spent 30 minutes with this one cussing and swearing, leaving to chill out and coming back. Looked all over newegg and the rest of the internet for advice, basically was told it snaps in no problem and I'm doing it wrong because I'm forcing it in. It is very obvious the pins do not lineup, and rather than break my MoBo I'm just going to return this. I am very frustrated with these fans, maybe it's just an issue with Gigabyte motherboards. Intel stock cooler fits in perfect with no problems on both Motherboards, Cooler Master X Dream 4 does not.

This wasn't good enough for my CPU so my desktop wouldn't boot up. The heat warning fail safe kicked in and my desktop automatically turned off everytime I tried to turn it on because this wasn't a good enough heat sink. My recommendation is to try to find a liquid CPU cooler because they're much quieter and better than a air cpu cooler.

I couldn't see packing and shipping it back for a $10 refund, so it went in the trash. The thing was noisy and the tabs holding the fan to the heat sink were brittle and broke off (I was trying to change the noisy fan).
They had a sound measurement on the ad which I thought would indicate it was quiet, but I was wrong. Those Dba numbers are meaningless to the user because there is nothing to compare it to. This is a noisy as they get.
I'm back to square one.

I needed a cooler for a socket 775 Celeron D 336, and wasn't looking to spend a heck of a lot of money. This looks and behaves very similar to the stock intel cooler. It's not whisper quiet, but just above, and isn't what I would describe as 'loud.' With a fairly hefty and warm graphics card (an 8800GTS) in a fairly not well ventilated case, the CPU temperature averages out at about 52C - hot, but not dangerously so. This cooler won't win any awards for cooling prowess, but it does the job for cheap.

...not a bad fan but it's nothing special either. It's pretty much the same fan you get with the intel processors, it has a little more speed and the blades are a little deeper, other than that it's an intel fan.
