Product Description

It is a budget builder's dream. Being amongst the best value for the dollar in CPU cooling, X6 Elite focuses less on aesthetic flair and incorporates minor changes to performance to achieve a well balanced setup. A unique angled base assists in compatibility and improving overall airflow within a chassis. Six heatpipes and a honeycomb fin structure assist in dissipating heat quickly to keep CPUs cool under high loads.

This cooler works great: it keeps my 2011 socket i7 nice and cool, even when playing the newest games. The only problem I have is that it's big. Really big. I actually had to return the PCI wireless network card I bought after this because this cooler physically covered the only remaining (out of 3) PCI port. I decided to buy a USB wireless dongle instead (the motherboard I bought has 6 ports on the back. Seriously, who needs that many?)

This works great for a "bare bones" PC (GPU, CPU, and 2 sticks of RAM,) but don't expect to add too much to your motherboard after you attach this.

I guess I discovered the problem with buying something that didn't have any Amazon reviews. This looked like it might be a good product, especially after reading two reviews by publications. But they only reviewed the design and it's obvious they didn't try to install one. I removed the fan in order to gain access to the screws mounting the cooler to the motherboard, but when I went to reattach the fan, I found it wouldn't fit because it doesn't clear the memory sticks. Since my case has a lot of fan capacity, I'll see how it works without the attached fan. I'm using an Asus P9X79 Pro motherboard, btw.

Unmatched cooling power, I can overclock the i7-3770K up to 4.4GHz and it stays below 60C at a full load. Left alone at 3.9GHz it stays between 50-55C at a full load.

Barely fits when you consider the memory modules. The fan has a little give in the up/down direction and it has to be pushed to the top.

Unit is normally virtually silent and speeds up when the processor is under load, at that point it becomes noticeable but is still quiet.

Yesterday I built my first rig, and though I ordered the low profile G.Skill Aries RAM 8GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-17000 2133MHz Ares Series Low Profile (11-11-11) Dual Channel kit , the fan is so tall that it did not clear the side of my case by 1/4" and now I need to cut my Rosewill case Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case. Fortunately, the area to be cut was intended for additional fans and is already perforated to make the cutting easier.

Update 9-24-2012: I learned that the top of the fan is plastic and can be removed by removing 2 screws and now fits well in the case.
Changed rating to 5 stars.

I installed this on a full atx mother board with big Ripjaws, the issue is that if you have big ram you will need to either move the fan to the other side and make sure to change it to exhaust or intake depending on you configuration. It fits fine in a phantom 410 but will not fit in something a few inches thinner, It looks great and cools great but make sure you have a good idea to make it fit, might just take some work but since the fan is easy to remove its easy to reconfigure, the heat sink itself is easy to put on but required two people for both AMD and Intel configurations due to the back plate.
