So then whats my point with all that right? Well my point is that I kept looking deeper into the mech board world and eventually even I got overwhelmed once I got to the whole custom level of the field where you would buy your own parts to build a custom mech keyboard. It turns out the features I wanted were mainly in those Custom mech boards ONLY and not in the consumer brands boards on say Amazon. So I was stumped cause I couldn't pay upwards of 200+ for a board but I still wanted those high end features.
So I gave up at that point and just let everything stir for about a month and then finally my membrane board broke so I had no choice but to revisit the subject. So I did and this time I looked through various General tech forums to find the best Mech boards that they were buying instead of the Mech ONLY forums that I was in previously. THIS HELPED ALOT fyi, guess I'm just not the custom mech board sort of techy yet.
So I started to sift through these websites more and more even started to post so that I could explain what I wanted and it was sparce for the choices I got but eventually someone mentioned Cooler Master and there Lineup. And as you can imagine I was put back at what they offered quality/feature wise for the price. But yet they still had features only the custom boards had like a removable cable and easily replaceable Micro USB B port on the keyboard (Even if they don't say it u can easily unsauter it and put on new one if it fails. Its a little extra thing they gave us enthusiasts that want to do the work which I appreciate it :P u guys.) Even if you won't admit or say we should do it I get it its for PR that u can't approve of this. But still its a great thing for the enthusiasts nerds that want to.
*The main things that Won me over were as follows:*
- Was the aspect of a removable cable (so if the cable got chewed by my animals or simply became defective as they do after long use I could replace it along with the female port inside the keyboard if I needed to A big thing I needed to have so I knew I'd be able to use this board for a decade at least)
- QUALITY - that is Number one with Cooler Master boards. These boards have that quality heavy feeling u get with well built products meant to last. They also have high quality feeling plastics unlike so many other brands I've looked at.
- RGB backlighting along with the amazingly complex yet simple to understand software to control it all with. (Ohh and sidenote you can control every aspect of the lighting on the board with FN key or in the software which is pretty sick)
- They have a Tenkeyless or (Small) option something brands like Corsair, Logitech, Razor, or Steelseries don't. The ones they did have were to flashy, goddy, ugly, or to expensive. CM's version was the exact opposite which I loved.
- Lastly they aren't some well known company as those I listed above that sell metric tons of keyboards. For me that underdog aspect of them makes me appreciate the work they do even more. Along with all the benefits u get when u buy from an underdog company is that you get customer service thats actually personal and helpful. Something thats just nice to have when u are in such an instance. Something they do great unlike some companies who blame u when there product breaks because it was flawed from the start. Ya they exist lol and it sucks to deal with them.
Ya so in summary I couldn't have asked for a better keyboard its basically if u guys wanted TLDR its the perfect keyboard for the guy who wants the features of a custom Mech Board but doesn't have the money to blow 200-400 on a single peripheral device. Cooler Master gives you a great middle ground between both sides of the Mech world. Which for me I couldn't find a single other comapany that did the same. So I fully recommend this Mech board will last you for 10 yrs easy.
Only issue I had would be that the keycaps they provide aren't double shot PBT but thats not actually bad. Since if they did include those more expensive caps then the price would be raised first off. But they also might not include the Keycaps you wanted from the PBT type meaning you would be paying more money for something u don't want.
By using cheaper yet decent keycaps you keep the price low and you allow the user to buy there own Double shot Expensive PBT keycaps themselves. I don't know if they consciously chose for it to happen like this but dang it worked out great for the both of us we get a cheaper board with the option to buy better keycaps if we want, and Cooler Masters gets happier customers for there actually rational and intelligent decision to use cheaper keycaps.
Props to u guys GREAT DECISION for the consumer!! :)
Alright I'm done now, hope any of this rambling helped u decide. If it did PLEASE get the Small option full keyboards aren't needed in the modern day for 90% of PC users. And p.s. the small option allows you to game easier since you have more room while playing since u don't have a num pad on the end taking up useless space. So ya get the small option its the much better choice.
What drew me to the Cooler Master MasterKeys Pro S was it's compact size and it being back lit. I type a lot both for work and for personal use. Having back lit keys is vital to me. Most see it as a novelty but it is way more functional. The fun thing with RGB is you can customize the lighting layouts. Not really crucial but a fun thing to do when you are bored. The lighting effects are cool too but I never use any of them, they can be distracting to me.
The size is the be part. I have no need for a 10 key. Just not really something that I utilize all that much. So cutting that off the keyboard gave me some more space on my desk for notebooks and what not. It did not take me any time at all to get used it's absents. After a while it become second nature just reaching for them with your fingers.
Navigation keys are moved closer to the center as well. I never realized how much I use them until after getting this keyboard. While using anything application: browser, text editor, IDE, anything.
The only downside I see for the keyboard is the USB cord they give you and the placement of the USB Mini connection. I also have the Pro M (it's at my office) and the M has the USB connection under the keyboard with channeling to have the cord come out right, left, or top sides. The S has the connection at the top side of the keyboard. Which is not the main issue. The main issue is the nice braided USB cord they give you has a 90 degree left bend for the plug. This forces you to route the cord left. For me it needs to go right to get to my desktop. I know this is a minor thing but it kept me from giving this 5 stars.
I went with blue switches as I seem to always double type letters with the red switches. With the tactile bump I make fewer mistakes for sure. I will admit the red switches were a little better for gaming but haven't had any issues playing. I was afraid the would be too loud but I like them a lot. Also haven't had anyone complain about the noise is Team Speak or Discord.
The RBG lighting is nice though the customization is a little on the lacking side, compared to other manufactures. I do like how there is a plate raised up under the keys so you cant see the LEDs. Makes for a much cleaner look compared to the K70. CAPSLK only lights when it is being used which should be a standard feature on all LED keyboards. The keys are brightly lit but not too bright. I get where they came up with the "16 million" different colors but seems like a marketing scheme to me. No way you see that many colors.
The cord is 1.5 meters and is detachable which was a must for me. My only issue is that is uses a micro USB port which, in my case, always breaks down after time. That's why I got a 4 year protection plan just in case.
For me this keyboard fit my needs. Tenkeyless, Cherry Blue switches, back lit keys, and a detachable cable. I gave it a 4 out of 5 only because of the way the micro USB cable connects. If it connected under the keyboard like the Pro L does I would have given it a 5 star. Over all I do recommend.

Upon purchasing this I had read A LOT of reviews on it and generally it was amazing, however there were a few I came across that had serious issues from more 'experienced' mechanical keyboard enthusiasts about the keys being weird and such. Needless to say I was hesitant to get this at first but eventually pulled the trigger. Boy was I glad I did!
I got the MX Brown variant and coming from the Razer Blackwidow 2013 which was a green backlit MX Blue fullsize it was quite the change!
Immediately I love the Browns as opposed to the Blues especially for gaming, although when typing I do miss the Blues a bit however I'm completely accustomed to the Browns now so that is mostly gone.
Having the TKL is very nice, I only ever used the numpad for what most people usually use it for which is number crunching in calculator which is often-ish for me but for the amount of time I used it learning to use the number keys along the top wasn't a big deal.
Getting rid of that terrible Razer software felt so great, and not being 'forced' to install a software to use this keyboard made it feel even greater! (Although I still installed it, but knowing I didn't have to and I wouldn't really be missing out on much felt great!).
Speaking of the software it's solid software, very simple to use and easy to navigate. I wish other manufacturers would take this more seriously.
As for the keyboard itself I mean the keycaps feel nice and solid and the backlighting is nice and bright.
The only nit-picky thing I would change is the position of the media function buttons, have the the play/pause be on 'Home' flanked by forward/backward while 'End' handle stop while being flanked by volume up/down. Ridiculously minor issue, and only because I use it quite often. I have gotten used to it however!
Apart from all this, I must mention that I bought a wrist rest to use with this keyboard and that improves things quite a bit, It'd be a much worse experience without one personally but most people it probably wouldn't bother. I won't take a star off for this because the point of this keyboard is the small footprint which if they included a built-in wrist rest would defeat the purpose of that.
That aside if you're interested in the wrist rest I am using it is the 'Glorious PC Gaming Race' foam TKL wrist rest.
Overall great purchase and I doubt anybody would truly be disappointed with this.
I have encountered some problem like the key registered 6 7 times on its own when I just plugged it in to my PC. Fortunately, I still have my last mechanical keyboard for me to download CM's software and it somehow fixed it after I updated the firmware.
The second problem however, is that the keyboard wouldn't register while I am playing around with my RGB profile, and then I was able to do that again once I have saved my profile with CM's software that is provided.
The last problem actually bothers me the most is that I wasn't able to use fn+page up or down to higher or lower my volume...
It somehow gives me some sort of custom profile when I try to click that. It fixed with a restart on my computer however...
Overall pretty solid in terms of hardware, but needs a lot of improvement when it comes to software.
I can only give 4 stars though because the lighting on the number keys on the top is not uniform. The symbols (!@#$%^&*) are brightly lit but the numbers are a bit dimmer. It's not the end of the world, though. The customization options for the LEDs is excellent. I can make my entire keyboard red and CAPSLK, NUMLK, SCRLK white for visibility. This was the main thing that attracted me to the RGB board - making individual keys and sections different colors to improve efficiency and reduce the time spent searching for the right keys when typing up long documents like my thesis.
