I have an Asus G60. Cooling pads work radically differently with different types of laptops, so keep that in mind as you read.

Pros:

Functionality: 10/10. Cools great and is relatively quiet, barely louder than my laptop itself on full power. On its own, the monster gpu (GTS 360M) on my laptop pours out the heat from the side during load. I've literally melted crayons that have sat next to it. It also gets pretty hot on the keyboard on that side. With the massive fan on this cooler, the heat coming out the side is much reduced and the keyboard is much cooler, not to mention the heat is expelled farther from whatever surface or lap the laptop is on. I haven't done benchmarking, but I would guess a good 10-15C difference in the core based on what it puts out. I don't know which other laptops blow heat out the bottom or side but this pad blows up into the laptop, so that's something to keep in mind.

Controls/ports are very helpful. 8/10. I need a lot of USBs and this thing nets me three extra (Since I use a USB for power. There's also the option of AC wall power so you don't tie up a port on your laptop). The controls for the fan are perfect. Easy on/off button and fan speed dial. It has a clip on either side underneath the main surface for wires that is really helpful, it really does almost become a docking station. However, the ports and buttons are receded a couple inches into the side of the pad, making them hard to reach without going over and looking into the side of it. Not a huge deal, I'm just really picky :P In fact, now that I think about it, that will keep rigid connectors from sticking out the sides and getting bumped/broken off, so I guess it's a trade off.

I used to have a Dell laptop and a full docking station to go with it. The crappy old Dell would get hot, but that dock was convenient. When I upgraded to an Acer, I learned that there really weren't any docking stations made for it, so I settled on a cooling stand (because my last laptop kept overheating) with some USB ports. I am very happy with this purchase. The fan works well, you can even feel it on your arms if you leave them at the sides of the computer. The 4 USB ports need to get attached to a powered port, but that's not a big problem. Interestingly, they didn't seem to mention that there is an AC port for the fan, but it doesn't come with a plug. The charger for my Sony PSP fits like a glove. The cable hooks on the back really come in handy for reducing clutter.

My cooler just arrived a few days ago and already love the extra features. My 17" Dell gets really heated when I'm running a lot of applications, but the fan speed control helps keep my laptop cool. I need to place my hand under my laptop sometimes, just to make sure its running, but the fans are real silent. The adjustable angles helps my neck from straining, since my chair is higher than normal. The 4 extra USB ports are real handy for all my peripherals and act like a hub, so I don't need to unplug all the cords everytime I take my laptop home.

i have purchased two of these notebook coolers, one was for a 15" laptop and the other a 17" my son uses his laptop in bed a lot and while it sat on his comforter, it would run very hot. having it sit on the cooler not only keeps it from feeling so warm to the touch, he is also able to adjust the keyboard to an angle that is more comfortable to use while lying down in bed.
now as for the one i bought for my wife. she was skeptical about this. i bought this one for her for two reasons: her 17" laptop runs extremely hot because she uses it 8-10 hours a day but also she has neck and back problems and sitting at a desk usually puts her in a position where she leans forward making those problems worse after a long day sitting at her desk. the large 140MM fan keeps her beastly laptop cool and the fan is amazingly quiet even at full speed. with a laptop sitting on it i don't even think you can hear the fan at all. the best thing i can say about the cooler is this; when i brought it home and told my wife why i bought it, she said for the money she would of rather had a massage to take care of her back but after using the pad for just a couple of days she said her back and neck did not bother her as much because she could raise the angle of the pad so much that she didn't have to learn forward as much to type on the laptop. so for the price of a 1/2 hour massage, she can work in more comfort every day.
are there any drawbacks to the cooler? two minor one's that i can see. the first is that when ever you have the pad plugged into the laptop the fan will run even when the laptop is off unless you power the pad itself off or unplug the USB plug that powers it. not the end of the world but just something to remember.

I have a laptop that runs fairly hot. I bought this laptop cooler about 10 months ago because it has a low noise specification with large air movement. It works reasonably well cooling my computer although I do not have another cooler to compare against. My cooler is still functioning, but it has been used only a few times a week until recently, so I cannot rate its longevity. My reason for giving a middle rating is for the lousy details unrelated to the cooling. Would I buy this product again? Probably not.

The goods:

Yes, this cooler is not noisy. The air flow volume is adequate but not that much at the highest speed setting; I feel just a little breeze. I do not see any point to not always crank the dial to the highest speed setting.

The cooler stand is quite sturdy when locked at lower angles.

Below are my average temperatures (in Celsius) without and with this cooler at its highest fan speed setting. These numbers came from Everest Home Edition software. Loaded numbers were measured while Dragon Age (a 3D game) was running. Summary is that this cooler lowered the temperature by about 3 degrees Celsius at most areas of my key laptop.

Idle CPU cores average: 57 w/o, 54 with
Loaded CPU cores average: 72 w/o, 69 with
Idle chipset: 48 w/o, 47 with
Loaded chipset: 60 w/o, 57 with
Idle aux: 53 w/o, 51 with
Loaded aux: 62 w/o, 59 with
Idle DIMM: 49 w/o, 47 with
Loaded DIMM: 62 w/o, 57 with
Idle GPU diode: 52 w/o, 51 with
Loaded GPU diode: 64 w/o, 63 with

The bads:

The USB ports are located too far inside. They basically cannot be accessed without taking the computer off and tilting the cooler on its side or edge.
