MM520 'Claw' review: I'm sad writing this review, as all Spawn/Xornet fingertip users wanted was that same shape mouse, with an improved sensor. With the MM520, Coolermaster is telling us that we *really* should, as in *right now*, move to a palm grip, because RGB lighting is so important that it justifies making a stretch limo out of a porsche.
The MM520 is ~5/8" longer than the Xornet2. Why? Certainly not for the fingertip user's benefit, as the MM520 is heavily rearward weight-biased, can no longer be picked up effortlessly with pinkie and thumb, and slides through your fingers and keels over backwards if you try.
This 'sliding through your fingers' soapbar shape is what characterizes palmgrip mice. The thumb slides around the grip area, where the rubber grip on the Spawn/Xornet2 has been removed, because you are being told to stop gripping the mouse there.
The rubberized surface on the main buttons has been removed, because palmgrippers lay their fingers flat along the buttons, and you should stop gripping the button surface with the tip of your fingers, as fingertip users do, and lay your fingers out flat like a palmgripper.
To be very clear to Coolermaster: The dramatic lengthening of the MM520 over the Spawn/Xornet2 is a bad thing. The removal of positive gripping surfaces is a bad thing. They are *not* good things, they are *bad* things.
Other aspects are fine: The improved sensor is immediately apparent. The lack of an second DPI button behind the wheel is not an issue for me (I can e.g. make a 2nd profile & assign a different color/dpi to it, and assign 'profile cycle' to the single button).
Logitech g403 - shape is like a rock, in rest its is flawless;
Logitech g303 - too small to grab it normally;
Zowie EC2-A (new one) - worst scroll, click are heavy, weight, on moves its not the same like alcor;
Razer DeathAdder - always very sweaty hands, too much software dependence, but in rest is good.
So i waited this mouse from Computex 2017 with a hope that it will be exactly perfect and flawless for me at least. Pros:
- favorite shape (like ms ie 3.0 just little smaller);
- good quality of materials (PBT is not bad), rubber inserts are useless but the best ones was on g403 (just for mark);
- flawless sensor (PMW3360);
- awesome software, without need to be always on and with bunch of settings and profiles (easy customized);
- nice foots, waiting for official replacement foots from CM;
- additional weight inside mouse can be removed easily (-10-15g).
I got mouse from first bunch of mouses with a rattle defect, after this almost immediately support from CM helped me in getting new one without any possible defect and also a cool t-shirt gift. This small step from CoolerMaster for me made me believe that this is one of TOP companies not only in computer hardware how it position itself, but in the fact how they are caring about their clients and their QA/products.
