This looks to be it. I did a leak test first thing - filled it 3 inches from the top with water and let it sit for 3 days. No leaks. When I emptied it I folded the corner down to avoid getting water into the zipper seam (where it could get into the insulation). And that's really where I have a criticism with this cooler. On the Mountainsmith the liner extends up past the zipper just a bit. So when you're pouring it out, the water doesn't touch a seam. That's a better design. On this AO I'm not planning on folding down the corners unless the cooler will be stationary. Seems like sloshing water will get down into those corners and leak easily. So in the car I'll keep it as tall as possible.
Still happy with the cooler though. It's a solid option at a good price. It keeps much colder than the Mountainsmith did, at the expense of some bulk. It's also a good bit bigger. Based on the quality of the materials, we expect to get a few years' use out of this one.
As for the ice keeping capabilities. I mostly use the cooler to pack beer and snacks on the boat and realistically, if I toss beer and a 20lb bag of ice in it in the beginning of the day, I would say about 70% of the ice will be melted by the end of the day. Now, realize that's outside in the TX heat, with people in and out of it all day grabbing beers so that's pretty amazing! Even with most of the ice melted the water will still be plenty cold enough to keep your beers cold. The longest I've kept ice in there is about 3 days, but the cooler was closed most of the time and was indoors (there was still ice in it but I dumped it out). In my experience, no matter how good the cooler is, the more people are in and out of it (i.e letting hot air in), the faster the ice is going to melt. I own hard sided yeti coolers that won't keep ice for more than about a day and a half if it's summer time and people are constantly in and out of it. Pro Tip: If you want your ice to last longer in your coolers, use block ice.
My only complaint about this cooler is a very minor one. It's that although this cooler is waterproof and does not leak, it will sweat a good amount if it's nice and warm and humid outside. This really is not a huge deal but just something to be aware of. I don't think you'll find a better value for a soft sided cooler. Time will tell for durability, but I have no reason to doubt it
So after having this cooler for about a year and a half, the inner liner has torn. I'm not sure what exactly happened but I loaded it up with beer and ice one afternoon and the next morning there was water everywhere. Upon closer inspection, I found a roughly inch long rip in the inner liner. I didn't fill it more than usual and I had cans in it so there wasn't anything sharp to puncture it. I'll be sending it back to AO to get the liner replaced. I'll report back on how that goes
