Engineered for Awesome
How did you come up with the idea for this product?
Two of my favorite things in the world are spending times with family and friends and getting together outdoors. I also love to make things, so once upon a time I turned a weed-whacker into a gas-powered blender, and then transplanted an old car stereo into a giant cooler. The Coolest Cooler was created when I realized technology had advanced enough that I could re-invent both of those creations into a single ultra-cooler, while also address all the other shortcomings I’d experienced with other coolers.
What makes your product special?
When anyone takes a cooler out of their garage, good times are sure to follow, and the Coolest is designed to multiply that fun, not just keep ice cold. Our ice-crushing blender, Bluetooth speaker, and USB charger speak for themselves, while all the other built in innovations like plates, bottle and wine opener, and gear tie-down system make it easier to get out of the house in the first place. With more fun and less hassle hopefully we can all get together outside more often.
What has been the best part of your startup experience?
After sweating all the details for so long to make the highest quality product we possibly could, the best part has been hearing from our customers that the Coolest Cooler completely exceeded their expectations. Oh, and being Chief Cocktail Taster…that’s pretty great too.

First and foremost; I would never pay more than $300 to $350 tops for this cooler. I received mine at an even lower discount for being an early adopter, but I just can't see paying $500 for this type of cooler, especially it being from a fledgling company, with proprietary components. There's a bit of a mystery as to how long support, parts, and warranty work will be available. As time passes, and the company solidifies its place in the market then obviously it will be a safer bet. The original retail was originally around $300, that I can see. Being a niche and unique item, however, they will try to command a premium for such a different gadget.
The cooler itself is very large with a decent amount of room, and with that largeness comes mass. She's a heavy girl empty. Put ice in it, and you will be thankful it has wheels.
It appears solidly built. I'm not too sure how the wheels will fair loaded and on a sandy beach. To me they don't look they will work well. No beach test in my neck of the world at the moment unless I'd like a side of hypothermia with my Vodkarita... I'll update this review in the summer when I can do a beach test.
It has a luggage style telescoping handle which feels a bit flimsy to me, and I'm wondering how all that sliding will fair once it's exposed to beach sand. There's also a handy gear tie down built into the handle to stabilize anything you'd like to carry on top of the cover, on top of the 40 pounds of cooler, minus ice. Again, thank goodness for those wheels.
The front compartment holds a wine opener, (feels a bit cheap and like an afterthought but they have wine drinkers covered) and the area for the bluetooth speaker, along with a small storage space for your phone. If you own an iPhone 6plus, or other large phablet phone, it's not going to fit on top of the speaker and still be able to close the door. Bummer for me. However, an iPhone 6 fit fine. Lastly, there is a bottle opener in the front with a magnet to catch caps. UPDATE: 12/5/15 - I read another review, where the reviewer stated they were able to fit a phablet (Galaxy Note 5 without a case) in the storage compartment along with speaker without issue. I tried the iPhone 6s Plus again, this time with NO case (I only use a small bumper case) and it JUST fits, with no room to spare. You can, however, now close the front door. Personally, I don't like not having a case on my phone, especially around sand and liquids, but for those who like going "commando" with their phones, the iPhone 6s Plus will indeed fit, but your not fitting anything else besides the speaker and cork screw. Perhaps you can sneak a very small set of keys in the angled space behind the phone.
The speaker sounded really decent for its size and I thought the volume was very good. Naturally, you don't have to spend $500 on a cooler to get a decent sounding Bluetooth speaker, especially if you already have one. I did, however, order an extra speaker and you can pair the second coolest speaker using the party pairing feature. Having the second speaker, makes things sound even fuller, and also gives the sound system a unique feature that a run of the mill Bluetooth speaker might lack. The speaker also has a nifty power off and power on sound, along with a voice response for party pairing. I Had some pairing issues here and there but overall it seems to stay connected. States batteries are not user replaceable, hopefully they will last quite awhile, again availability of parts in the future concerns me. This isn't an Igloo or a Coleman. Worse comes to worse any small Bluetooth speaker with similar dimensions could replace it if yours goes belly up.
Blender works well so far, I bought an extra battery. They are proprietary, so when they die, hopefully they still will make them. Remember that the blender will only run continuously for 20 seconds and reset to protect the motor. If you have a couple of ice chunks still around you can engage the lever again and pulse those away.
Inside, there is a divider which also can be used as a cutting board. The ice side of the storage is under the left lid where the blender motor assembly lives. It's a bit awkward and bulky, but if you want a decent blender, the motor has to be somewhere. There is also a light switch under that lid to light up the ice chest area. The light itself is in the lid, so it won't light up the inside unless you tilt the lid down into the ice chest. With the divider installed you can't illuminate the entire ice chest area so you're unfortunately stuck seeing a well of ice on the left side of the container and not the goodies on the right which you would probably need the light for. Another light on that side of the lid would have made more practical sense, or even interior lighting in the chest itself but I have a feeling patent issues with one of the big cooler producers put the Kabash to that.
USB charging port: Yep it's there and it works. Nice and handy as long as you're not blending like a madman. I did use the blender a couple of times, then tested the charging port with a stone dead iPad 3. The cooler battery was still reading full and when it finally fully discharged, the iPad was at 74%. That's decent for me, since the iPad has a hefty battery. I did notice that the cooler battery was still showing one bar, but it would not power up the blender. I suspect, that charging a cell phone, which has a smaller battery would be much more realistic use for the charging port. At least you know there's plenty of juice in an emergency.
There are 4 plastic plates and a ceramic paring knife under the right lid. Very handy and nicely stored. You could throw the plates, like martial arts stars at would be attackers, or, defend yourself with the knife, to ward off those unsavory types who might want to abscond with your $500 party on wheels :) Then again, you might just cut fruit with it and have a picnic, your mileage may vary...
You will certainly get comments and be the talk of the party or the beach if you roll up with it. Definitely the Swiss Army knife of coolers.
Overall it is definitely cool, but too pricey. Also I am concerned about availability of parts down the road given the Kickstarter scandal. Time will tell how that all plays out, and more importantly, if this cooler will take hold in the mainstream. I'd imagine if it does then getting parts will be easy. If you have 500 bucks burning a hole in your pocket and don't care, you can go for it. I almost didn't back the cooler through Kickstarter and was going to wait for them to be made and sold on Amazon or another retailer. Had I have waited, I would have not spent the $500 they are asking, so I lucked out and got a good deal, as well as a conversation piece.
