This camera is 2.0MP vs the original 0.3MP. For the price, it was worth it. It improves the picture quite a bit. It's not a GoPro quality, but for the price, a great addition to your first drone. Its not FPV, but you get a great aerial shot with the top left switch.
Search for the Syma X5 Docs and read the camera operations section to see how to start and stop a video or take a picture.
I was having so much fun zipping my Syma X5 through the trees that I thought it would be fun to add the camera and get a video of it, but the camera took all the performance/fun out of the drone and then stopped working entirely.
I figured out later that it's very easy to insert the SD card incorrectly into the camera so that you think it's installed, but it's not. This causes the red light going off after a second problem. In fact the SD card had slipped entirely into the camera body and I had to take off all 4 screws and open the camera body to retrieve the card. I then put it back together, CAREFULLY reinstalled the SD card, and the camera works again. But this doesn't change the fact that the drone barely flies when weighed down by the camera.
If you've got the X5-1 (updated version) of the drone the camera function won't be on the "Eversion" button as documented, it'll be on the throttle trim button. Pressing the trim button UP will cause the controller to beep once and the camera will take a still picture. Pressing the trim button DOWN will cause the controller to beep twice and will start.stop recording video.
