About this item
- 100% ORGANIC MAPLE SYRUP: Coomb’s Family Farms makes high quality 100% organic Vermont maple syrup perfect for pancakes, waffles, French toast, and any other recipe. Harvested from ancient sugar maple trees and hand crafted using traditional, artisanal health spout taps, our syrup is a pantry staple.
- GRADE A AMBER AND RICH FLAVOR: Known for its smooth, full-bodied flavor and warm amber hues, this distinctive grade A syrup is produced mid-season when the temperatures start to warm. Its unique and subtle flavor is most often used for table syrup and in coffee and tea.
- RESPONSIBLY SOURCED: Coombs Family Farms has produced organic, great tasting maple syrup for seven generations. We farm our own land, produce 100% organic maple syrup and package our own pure maple products. Coombs also sources maple syrup from over 3,000 small independent family farms that share our commitment to quality, environmental stewardship, and sustainable forest management.
- “A NATURAL FOOD”: This 100% organic Vermont maple syrup is harvested from pesticide free farms. Containing no artificial flavors, preservatives, or dyes, this Grade A syrup is non-GMO, gluten-free, nut-free, and Kosher Certified.
- PROTECT A WAY OF LIFE: At Coombs Family Farms, we support small family farms because we believe they provide more than high quality food. They help restore those lost feelings of connection and meaning by providing opportunities for us to play a better role in determining where the foods we eat come from, how our food is produced, and how it gets to our table. Small farms also strengthen rural economies, preserve important ecosystems, and help to protect a way of life that is increasingly under threat.

Product Certification (1)
USDA Organic products must be produced using farming practices that maintain and improve soil and water quality, minimize the use of synthetic materials, conserve biodiversity, and avoid genetic engineering, among other factors. Crops can be certified organic if they’re grown without prohibited substances such as most synthetic fertilizers and pesticides for three years prior to harvest. Products that contain a minimum of 95 percent organic ingredients and use the USDA Organic seal are part of Climate Pledge Friendly.

The Craft of Maple Sugaring
Coombs Family Farms has produced pure maple syrup for seven generations by taking special care of our ancient sugar maple trees. As small family farmers, we understood there are no shortcuts to producing great tasting maple syrup.
We farm our own land, produce organic maple syrup and package our own pure maple products. Coombs also sources maple syrup from over 3,000 small independent family farms that share our commitment to quality, environmental stewardship and sustainable forest management.
- Environmental stewardship has been a guiding principal for our family, though in the early days, we just thought of it as being good farmers
Small is a Big Idea
At Coombs Family Farms, we support small family farms because we believe they provide more than high quality food.
Seven Generations of Stewardship
Since the mid-1800’s, the Coombs family has been acting as responsible stewards of the forest, following a ‘sustainable’ approach to agriculture long before anyone had a specific name for it – or could conceive of any other way to farm. As part of a fabric of nearly 8000 maple farmers who are all preserving maple forests, Coombs Family Farms is doing more than making maple. We are helping to preserve crucial habitat for thousands of distinct plants and animals that need large intact tracts of forest to survive.
Get Real - Taste the Truth
In 1887, the first breakfast syrup that wasn’t pure maple was introduced. It was made of 45% maple syrup and 55% corn syrup. By the 1990s, most imitation syrup brands had eliminated maple syrup from their products entirely, opting to use high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), artificial flavorings and artificial colors instead. As a result, labeling laws in the United States were enacted to prohibit artificial syrups from using the word maple in their names.
Organic Maple Syrup
Strict guidelines for organic maple syrup producers are as detailed as they are tough, but their purpose is deeply humanitarian, helping to protect health of consumers and the planet on which we live. Organic agriculture ensures the long-term health of both wildlife and humans by strengthening soil from which the crops are cultivated. Rather than viewing soil, plants, animals, humans and the planet separately, the principles of organic farming are based upon treating all of these as one interconnected entity.

In his youth, hubby tapped maple trees and boiled the sap down into maple syrup, so I consider him to be our little family’s expert on maple syrup. The syrup he made was not quite as thick, therefore, it also wasn’t quite as sweet, and that is exactly how he prefers it. Maybe I’ll develop a fondness for this sweet, golden syrup one day, but I seriously doubt it. I will, however, continue to buy this for him because the price is right (at least it was the day I bought it), and hubby loves it on his French toast If you like the flavor of REAL maple syrup (instead of maple flavored corn syrup - gack!), you will probably like this too.
THE FOLLOWING IS NOT A REVIEW, BUT IS MERELY REMINISCENCES FROM AN OLD WOMAN:
Maybe my overpowering distain for maple flavor came from the sickeningly sweet crystalline maple sugar candies that our grandparents always brought back to the five of us kids as a treat from their Vermont vacations. I traded them away or threw them away, but only after choking one bite down just so I could honestly say I ate some (though I never confessed that I hated them, so next Vermont vacation,...same gift!) Had I been a more confident pre-teen, I would have said, “Will you please bring me dark chocolate candy instead next time?” No, I’ll bet the chocolate would have been Vermont maple syrup filled, so it is unlikely to be the alternative I desired. I would have much preferred a little book, or perhaps a pretty top emblazoned with a State of Vermont map, or even a bag of Vermont nuts. No,...I continued with the forced smiling, all the while trying to hide my disappointment. My 3 brothers and my little sister liked maple sugar candy, so at least they were happy, especially when I gave them mine. Oh well. I enjoyed the stories our grands came back with. Grandma was an amateur genealogist, so they spent a lot of time roaming old cemeteries looking for headstones of long gone relatives, and those stories were golden. They've been gone for decades, I still miss them, and expect I aways will.
