I live in a dorm-style house, and like to keep things I use commonly in near reach. So I bought this piece to make a shelf out of. Using the wire from a 3 metal coat hangers, I made barriers to keep things inside their compartments. Using small nails I nailed it to the wall through the wire mesh. So far it's working out nicely. I use it to store small bottles of medication and juice for vape.
It was only supposed to be a temporary fix, but I've had it up on my wall for almost 6 months now, and it's served it's purpose very well.
1. I can put instructions for kitchen appliances under and still see them.
2. Easy to clean because can just lift the trays.
I really see no downside to them, but if you are considering getting them, you should know they are pretty industrial and modern looking. For me, they don't match my kitchen style at all, but since they're in a drawer, I really don't care. Some people might though.
I prefer these to plastic (they feel more long lasting and well-made) and wood (easier for me to keep clean).
The price is great, especially with Amazon Prime.
I hope this review is helpful to you!
Hats off to my fellow reviewers! You guys really helped me on this one -- lots of great tips. I never even thought about the mesh and crumbs angle until it was mentioned here -- that sold me. I hate that with the plastic kind. Also this seems much nicer overall and I needed the extra sections.
Thumbs up -- nice product.
Update: 2011-11-19 -- After 5 months or so of use, I like this very much and remain very satisfied with it.
STORAGE | The large size is perfect for my oversized cutelry drawer. Many similar products are only 12' in length, but this one is 16.' The 6-compartment design encompasses enough space to store my 8-service flatware set by Oneida, with a seperate component for 1) teaspoons, 2) tablespoons, 3) dinner (large) forks, 4) cocktail (small) forks, and 5) butter knives, with the larger area dedicated to the 6) "random" pieces (including the huge fork, grapefruit spoon, and that big slotted spoon that comes with standard flatware sets.)
CLEANING/MAINTENANCE | I prefer the mesh design over other styles as it doesn't attract "drawer grime." It's also been very easy to keep clean and maintain. Additionally, it stays in place! No sliding or need for frequent adjustments.
DURABILITY | Although it's been used regularly over the past few years, it still appears to be brand new. It has not rusted, chipped, or shown any other signs of wear.
APPEARANCE | The silver finish is very elegant, yet functional. It looks nice in my kitchen and adds to the overall visual appeal. My goal is to continue adding to my collection with organizers from Copco so that every drawer is as functional and neat as the one this enhanced.
Put it through a few cycles in the dishwasher - took multiple washings before smell went away. Obviously something is on the metal that caused the smell which causes concern over whatever is causing the smell to be transferred to the utensils - and then transferred to your mouth.
So if you get this thing, wash it first.
