From the packaging, I expected there to be much more to it and its contents. Here is what you get:
One 2 oz bottle of "Rainbow Flavors" Homebrew root beer extract (readily available for just over six bucks elsewhere).
One packet of Red Star Pasteur Champagne yeast (readily available for under a dollar elsewhere).
One standard 3-inch funnel.
Four standard blank labels.
One photocopied sheet of paper with instructions (readily available all over the web).
The 5" tall cardboard container pictured above(from the rest of the contents, this must therefore be worth about 8 dollars)
Not included: bottles.
So buy this product if you really like the packaging. Otherwise, order it much cheaper from a local or web-based source.
The kit is small and in my opinion, overpriced. It simply contains a small packet of yeast, some root beer extract, and some plain white blank office labels like you put on envelopes and can get at OfficeMax.
The root beer we made did come out excellent, however, for what's included this kit is definitely not worth the price.
The concocting itself was lots of fun. The end result was nasty-smelling and tasting. I can only describe it as rotten eggs - very sulphuric. Not sure if the root beer extract or yeast was too blame. Either way, a wasted set and disappointment all around.
Even 1% alcohol is too much for some of us, to the extent that we use care with things like mouthwash and vanilla extract.
A product warning would have been appropriate.

It's a fun little kit to experiment with. Never worked too well for me though. Always ended up with flat soda.Published 8 months ago by Amazon Customer
Waste of money, buy the flavouring at the supermarket, follow the back of the pack, real easy. This is a lot to do about not much.Published 15 months ago by Steven R.
Nicely put together kit, came in the mail at a decent rate, but the results of following the instructions on making the root beer were less that satisfactory.Published 19 months ago by Jessica Todd
I assumed that when I ordered something that said "The brew your own Root Beer KIT" that bottles and everything would be included. Guess I was wrong.Published 19 months ago by Jocile Grammer
I bought this kit for my son, who is 11. It was easy to make, and he was very excited about it. The problem came when we opened the bottle to try the root beer: it was alcohol. Read morePublished on January 3, 2012 by Justin G.
