I like how she uses body language to communicate emotion/stress/fatigue. She paints pictures with her words and shows (doesn’t spell things out) to describe characters. I appreciate the way she uses action to move the story along. The slow dawning of Russ’s love for Aimee came across as really organic. The paced, natural unfolding of the story makes the “aha moments” many and exhilarating.
I enjoyed the subtle references to the changing seasons – black flies, blueberries – that marked the passing of time. And there is great comic relief, even as real-world pain makes the story believable. I love Mak!
