Background music can be easily ignored in favor of the actual scenes being viewed. In the case of "Copper" soundtrack, if you are a loyal viewer, you can remember the scene according to the music played. Since there is a wide selection of music, Celtic, society, traditional Americana, etc... you are exposed to the feeling of the actual times depicted. Good solid soundtracks enhance the viewers all around watching experience. I was not disappointed at all by my purchase. I'd recommend it highly. Also, I want to praise Amazon for their high standards in getting products to purchasers in a timely manner, sending e-mails to notify purchaser of item status and standing by merchandise in event of any problem. Thank you.

A hopeless Detective Corcoran, on a devoid balcony ... shouldn't be the last scene, for a fan to remember.

This soundtrack helps recall the ambiance of the show perfectly. There are one or two tracks that seem a little to modern to me and may be true to part of the show that I wasn't paying attention to. I don't care for them as much because I like to use soundtracks as period ambiance for gatherings. In that light the majority of the tracks bear either that celtic "twang" of good Irish music or the fiddle feeling that is proper to the period. I would also recommend the soundtrack to "The Civil War" to accompany this if you like doing period music.

I am generally not a fan of television cop shows. But, every once in awhile, one comes along that is so original in concept (THE WIRE) or style (MIAMI VICE), that it becomes a classic. Judged on its excellent first season, COPPER has a chance to join that club.

One of the major contributors to the high quality of the show is the music score and main title theme by Brian Keane. This is one of those fortuitous times where the chosen composer is exactly the right man for the job . COPPER is set in 1860's Civil War era New York, and tells the story of police in Five Points tasked with coping with the volatile world of crime, corruption, poverty, and war. Keane has scored dozens of historical documentaries that directly relate to the themes and events of COPPER including The Irish in America; Death and the Civil War; and New York: A Documentary Film: episode 2 "Order and Disorder".
The title theme is a gem; a raucous jig featuring Who-style electric guitar power chords and a catchy theme played by fiddle and banjo. Unlike other shows that have a catchy main theme (e.g. DEXTER" ) that never return, Keane employs themes and variations throughout the length of the show which provides nice musical continuity. Other Keane trademarks- haunting melodies, moody atmospherics, and the deft handling of folk and ethnic musics- are present also.

There was a never a doubt in this reviewer's mind that Keane would produce fine music for the historical aspects of the show. But, what about the drama, especially the copious sex and love scenes? Keane comes through with flying colors on this count. Tracks like "Robert and Elizabeth" and "Ellen's Theme" are filled with emotion and longing.
The musical and dramatic highlights of COPPER concern Corcoran's lost wife and dead daughter.

I was just peeking to see if the main title song was on and previewed only 6 songs before decided to buy. Loved every single song.
