The information and explanations are good for understanding more difficult concepts. I wouldn't rely on this to catch up at the end of the semester and prepare for a test. Works better to help understand things as you learn them and then look back to for referencing when studying for your final.

Can't agree with the review below. This book isn't really for novices, probably for the same reason the below reviewer noted: the book doesn't have too much in the way of explanatory material. Plenty of examples/explanations, however, and really this is why I would recommend the book. Copyright isn't too difficult to understand in the abstract, which I why I suppose too much explanatory material isn't necessary. It's when you're in the weeds and are trying to apply principles to muddy facts that things get difficult, and the book is certainly useful for that.

Again, not really for a novice, because it goes quickly through the material. It's useful for when you've already read the casebook and are outlining and reviewing for a final exam, in which case it's quite functional: it gives you plenty of practice and plugs gaps in your understanding.

Knowing nothing about copyright law, this Examples & Explanations was useful in showing me the "bigger picture." The book is divided into four sections: copyrightable subject matter, ownership and transactions, statutory rights, and copyright litigation. It highlights major sources of conflict, like the exceptions to Section 106 rights, but gives only 20 pages to fair use. There is a little coverage of the DMCA and new technologies but not as much as I had hoped for.
Perhaps my biggest criticism is that the book just does not offer what other books in this series have: there are very few case references and there are many more examples than there are pages devoted to explanatory material.
Overall, good for a novice, or someone that missed major portions of class all semester.
