The metal is on the lightweight to medium weight side. When I sit on the swing, I'm always checking to make sure it's going to hold me. There is a hand tool to tighten the screws but I used an electric drill/screwdriver to make sure. Two of the screws were a wee bit too long for the screw caps to cover them.
The seat itself is canvas with a cushion cover. The cushion appears thick but squashes down to nothing. The seat is too short and doesn't reach under your knees. So there is an annoying bar under your lower thigh. An added cushion could solve the bar but the width of the seat remains too short for my liking. You sink into the canvas and if someone sits next to you of more weight, you can feel the swing/seat lean into that side. We are talking about two people under 200 lbs each and in the 5 foot 6 inch range. The swing supports 490 lbs but I wouldn't push it.
It is what you pay for. It's not like my old three seater with a solid sturdy frame. It seems more suitable for children or a light weight elderly person. It's not a swing you can lean into and relax. It will serve a purpose for a place to sit briefly.
I bought this swing at the end of may 2016, used it for the summer, put it away for the winter..
Here's where it gets good...I took it out this spring and have been sitting in for about a month, well today while sitting on it the fabric tore and I fell through to the ground, but not before my back slammed into one of the poles...I know what you're thinking, fat people should be careful what they sit on....I assure you, not only do I have a normal BMI, but I may actually be under weight because I am at home recovering from cardiac arrest..
So I would say if you're looking for a swing that will last for more than four months of use I would look elsewhere...it is a nice looking swing, but that doesn't count for anything when you're falling to the ground...
The last item on the direction list says to "fix the swing legs with the U pegs, but I was unable to figure out how to place this part properly. I am very pleased with my purchase
1. I have two left long stands instead of having left and right stands. It took some time to make it work. Two short stands were ok.
2. Quality of the metal structure should be better. I am talking about holes alignment, bolt sizes etc.
3. Assembly instructions are not really clear.
3. Some U shape parts came with this product. There is no way to determine what is this. There is no information about them in instruction book and in the spare parts list. They are not listed at all. I am just wondering is this an old manual or someone put these parts in by mistake.
Anyway, I put this swing together. It looks ok. Still holds together. The only reason I did not send this product back to Amazon is because I was in the middle of assembly when I discovered wrong parts. It was easy for me to continue vs. doing disassembly, packing etc.
