If your aquarium light fixture has a standard base and use the 6" - 8" incandescent bulbs, you can probably use either these 20W or the 10W bulbs, depending on the wattage rating of the fixture. For example, my lighting hood is rated for two 25W bulbs, so I am using two of these 20W bulbs. Using incandescent bulbs doesn't produce enough light energy for a decent, small (10-20 gallon), freshwater planted aquarium. This 20W has the lumination of a 100W incandescent bulb and the 10W is as bright as a 50W incandescent. They are also cooler than the incandescent bulbs. These make your aquarium brighter and it's no longer YELLOW! You may get an increase in algae growth, due to the light increase, but adding plants and/or other measures will fix that. These definitely beat paying a ton of money for a new fluorescent fixture and the light is effective for freshwater plants and fish. Worth every penny!

This 20W CFL Bulb works great. It makes the colors in my aquarium "pop". It is ideal for anyone trying to give off enough power to grow plants in small aquariums with standard (screw in) type light sockets. The item arrived SUPER QUICKLY and WELL PROTECTED. Thumbs up to the seller: "The Petstore". Thank You.

I did a lot of research on the best spectrums for plant growth, and this one definitely had the right intensity spikes at the right colors. For starters, the fact that the manufacturer puts out graphs of light intensity vs light wavelength in nm is very appealing to me (versus just saying "this will work"). It was also difficult to find a decent selection of medium-screw light bulbs for aquariums, since that is not as common as T5/T8 etc. I replaced a 10 W CFL bulb in my 5 gallon, and noticed algae growth within a few days, and consequentially added CO2 and some more liquid/solid macro/micro ferts. In about 2 weeks, all my plants have had considerable growth, especially my Java Fern which sprouted new leaves since which already about 2" long, on top of the original leaves growing 1/2-1". The algae outburst stopped, and now my nitrates have actually stabilized at 30-40 ppm in the past week without any water changes from the increased plant growth. The bulb also lights the tank in a very appealing and professional looking tone. I'd definitely recommend this bulb, and Coralife Energy bulbs in general, at least from my experience with them thus far. I'm very excited since my whole life all I've managed to do is kill <garden> plants, and now I can actually grow something.

Edit: I bought 3 of these for different tanks, and the first one just died after about 5000 hours. A bit earlier than I was expecting, but my plants look huge now, beautifully filling up the whole tank. Much faster growth than other bulbs I was using before.

A great option for a 10 gallon retro tank with its original hood. Plants are doing very well with this light, but isn't so bright that the fish are disturbed. I don't know about how long they last yet....

I ordered two of the bulbs for my freshwater planted aquarium. The light looks great, from the one bulb that arrived working. Now I have to return the other bulb, and order a new one. On top of that annoying ordeal, the same bulb will cost me 7 more dollars than it did before the weekend when I ordered them originally. I have paid the extra seven and if this light works I will change this review to a 4 star, but it is too much extra time, effort, and money to give it a 5 star.
