Enough of this formula - Santana guest starring on his own album. Since Supernatural and with the exception of the Excellent Shape Shifter and a handful excellent songs over the last 10 years worth of recordings, what we have here is yet another potpourri of artists " leaving their egos " at the door and letting Carlos arrange these songs and over play on many of them.

Ive seen Carlos 67 times in concert - last week he played in Miami. No question he has still got it ! No question his guitar is one of the most unique distinguished uplifting sounds in the world. You can be anywhere and you will instantly recognize him when he comes on the radio. Except for 3 new songs from Corazon, Smooth and Maria Maria everything else in the 2.5 hour concert came from the first 3 Santana albums plus as always a version of A Love Supreme.

If you like formulaic 4 - 5 minute " pop " songs and top forty fodder like " Margarita " you will like this album. For me the best track is clearly " Sadeira " it is shoulders above the rest. The song cooks and sounds like a real Santana group effort. " Oye 2014 " is Pitbull rapping - who would have thought Rap music on a Santana album, " Besos de Lejos " was far better served on the Food for Thought album with Cesaria Evora - that track really had swing ! As for the puerile lyrics on the track " Indy " " i would really like to lay ya way up in the Himalayas " just skip this track altogether ! I wish Carlos would forget about being commercial and being on Dancing with the Stars and get down to playing Santana band music - jazzy world infused, samba afro cuban music. Hey Carlos how about an album with Juan Luis Guerra !!!! Tony Shalom, Miami

Yes, he has done it again. There are obviously two generations of Santana fans - those of us who experienced the golden days over the first dozen or so albums and 'newer' ones who are more used to a mish-mash of guest singers with Carlos in a supporting role. There has been some dire stuff, in particular 'Guitar Heaven'. I thought the latin flavor might see this through, but it's pretty dire, although I don't mind the Estefan tracks. Other reviewers who've seen him recently reckon that live he's still playing brilliantly. A real shame that my all-time favorite is reduced to turning out this pap on record.

I anxiously anticipated the release of this CD for months after hearing a sample of La Flaca. After giving the disc two listens,I understand why La Flaca was previewed,it is the most enjoyable track on this disc. For fans of Carlos' guitar virtuosity,I HIGHLY RECOMMEND purchasing his previous release:Shape Shifter. That CD features Carlos' SWEET guitar leads and solos on every track, and inspires the listener with Carlos' innate spirituality.

I like this album better than the last couple of Santana albums, which had left me almost thinking that I was done buying Santana albums. Since Supernatural the band has a more polished, modern sound and this might be the best album since that time. The band is tight (Benny Reitveld is a monster on bass) and Carlos' playing is front and center. I could do without the rap vocals and the awful Oye Como Va remake, but the rest of the album is well worth the price.

I have been listening to Santana for years and each time I purchase his albums, I am never disappointed. This album is one of the best I have heard in my life. The music gets into your soul and mind. I hear it playing in my head everyday and I smile and want to dance.
Take a road trip and put his music on and you will never be the same, which is what I did. The entire album is wonderful and every song is distinct and centered on one theme--Corazon, which means heart in English. Love it! Love it!

People seem to either love or hate this album but I'm in the middle on it. Yes, the guest appearance thing has been done to death and at least half the album feels bland to poor. A fair number of the tunes sound like knock offs from earlier albums musically. However, there are a few really good tunes on here. Saideira, La Flaca, Margarita, Indy, Feel It Coming Back/Amor Correspondido, Yo Soy La Luz and I See Your Face are all really good songs and I'm really impressed Diego Torres voice on the two songs he sings. I'd never heard of him until this album was released but his voice is wonderful. The two tunes with Gloria Estefan are okay but I'm not super impressed even though I know some people find these to be among the highlights. Surprisingly, the Ziggy Marley tune sounds sort of bland as well.

I like the songs I have Heard on this álbum, the first 5 or 6. I remember Abraxas, Santana III, Caravaserai, ect... Those are my favorite albums by Santana. If you are a fan of his and don't know the 1st 6 albums the group put out, by all meams get them and you will hear a very different side of Santana. As a musician, I think I understand the direction that Santana is going in these days. Even the most diehard musicians have to pay the bills and doing that through music is not easy. It makes you respect John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Thelonious Monk all the more. But I don't knock Carlos, in fact he wanted to put out a Spanish language álbum and that's exactly what he did. I'm Hispanic and the music sometimes can be very pop music sounding. To his credit, the music is pleasant and uplifting at least it is to me. From the standpoint of a pop music álbum with a strong latino flavor I think it is a good álbum. However, if you want to compare this álbum with Caravanserai, es harina de otro costal. To compare this with an álbum like Welcome is like comparing a baseball bat to a frisbee. I think now that Santana will never make another álbum like Abraxas. Hey, the guitars are dffferent, some of the musicians he played with are no longer with us and more importantly it's a different point and time and yesterday is gone. Forever. If you like this álbum cool, if you don't I have no problem with that particularly if your reference point is Santana of the 1960's and 1970's.
