I only use metal spoons and have not had a problem with them burning the plastic (of course, I don't leave them in the pot to get scalding hot either). ;)
It was too small for my electric coil stove, there is not room for the spoon rest to sit without it touching/being too close & possibly getting burned when cooking. --> I would just move it to the side counter when cooking & return to stove after cleaning, so I had no problem with the size.
After upgrading to ceramic stove (Happy Mother's Day to Me!) the spoon rest fits perfectly - even when cooking!
Ceramic tops do not have the outer-rim drip pan to decrease the area of the stove like the coil stoves do, therefore, if you do not want to move your spoon rest to counter when cooking, they work best on ceramic.
SUM IT UP:
I personally feel that it does not matter what type of stove you have, the spoon rest functions as it should:
*Made of quality plastic/Melamine - Not cheap, thin plastic.
*Fits large spoons well.
*Does not stick to any of my metal spoons/spatulas when cooking.
*Keeps stove/counter clean.
Second, the material on this is no where close to the original Corelle simple lines dinner set. I bought this to go with my Corelle Simple lines dinner set, and though the design is exactly similar, the material is just Cheap. It broke while I was transporting it in my suitcase (same suitcase had the dinner set, and nothing happened to any items of the dinner set)..
I would say if anyone has to buy it just for the looks to go with the dinner set, be prepared for the cheaper plastic on this, and easy breakability of this...
This spoon rest works well, but anything can work well as a spoon rest. The paper towels and pan lids I used to use work just as well, but this spoon rest is a bit more stylish than some folded up napkin. It's fairly large and can easily fit two large wooden spoon or anything similar. I've even used them to rest tongs on.
The bad thing about this spoon rest is that is it plastic! Don't put anything too hot on it. I was expecting something similar to the rest of the set. Guess I should have read the description more closely. This spoon rest is made from "melamine," whatever that is... The rest of the Simple Lines set is glass or ceramic, but this spoon rest is cheap plastic. Unless you're looking really closely, you won't notice it but it does have a different shine. It's hard to get plastic to sparkle as well the rest of the Simple Lines glass or ceramic pieces.
This spoon rest is best if you have money burning a hole in your pocket or really want to make your kitchen match. It's a bit pricey for just a simple plastic dish.
This works very well. I'll upload some additional pictures to show the curve on the end opposite where the spoons set, to help for curved handles.
It is plastic, so would be susceptible to heat damage, but since I'm using nylon and such materials for my utensils, it's not an issue for me, nothing will ever be set down that exceeds this item's ability.
Matches the plates and such better than some of the other items like the salt and pepper shakers, which are a noticeably darker white.
Happy with the purchase.
