- it's dishwasher and microwave-safe;
- it's lightweight without being too light;
- it stacks in a nice, small profile;
- and a set like Cafe Blue for 4 here costs around $25.
Honestly though, the reason to get it is because it's going to take a beating, a few drops, a lot of clinking into other pieces, and it's not going to look the worse for wear - the price is almost immaterial considering how well this set will hold up over time (I've had my set for years, and other Corelle pieces for decades, all in great shape from moderate use). I would think for families with kids who do the dishes, or for senior with shaky hands, Corelle sets like this would be ideal due to their toughness and lightness -- a few years ago, I got this set for my grandparents after they suffered a few dish-breaks during washing of their decades-old hodgepodge of fragile dishes, and while they were initially resistant to the notion of using this set they ended up using it exclusively.
I love this set's look - simple yet alive without being overstated. Corelle offers the Cafe pattern in red and black as well, I have 2 of the blue and 2 of the black lunch plates, but the blue ones are more pleasant over the black (the red seem like they're being a tad too bold). I have seen the occasional piece in stores with an off-center printing of the color bands, but I haven't had that problem in my set or the extra pieces I've bought.
This set includes 4 dinner plates, 4 bowls, and 4 bread & butter plates.Read more ›
The plates and bowls shrug off knife marks, spoon trails and fork scratches as if you were eating with plastic utensils. A trip through the dishwasher and they sparkle like new. The old stuff was so scarred, half a can of Bar Keeper's Friend couldn't rub out the damage.
Call me sentimental but every time I set the table or grab a plate for a quick bite, I just have to turn it over and see the phrase MADE IN USA.
And, yes, I know the mugs now come from places like China and Thailand. If only World Kitchen would bring back American-made white Pyrex (anyone remember it?) or even Corning Pyroceram from France as the base material for the mugs. Ah, well. . .
All the bowls had little pinpricks on the bottom, probably where the glass was poured for molding. Most of the blue stripes were a little uneven at the point where they must have started and stopped. I decided to ignore those two flaws.
If you like Corelle's light, thin, and damage-resistant dishes, this is a pretty set. We're keeping ours. Just inspect your set carefully when you first receive it.

These have been thrown across the room and landed on tile floor, left on hot stove tops, microwaved, frozen, and so much more.... the plates really hold up! These last a lifetime.Published 2 months ago by Patrick
