This book is a good addition to any cat owner's shelf... covers a lot of basic information on cats and their diseases. Written to a college level audience, this book straddles the layperson and veterinarian/scientist language line. That being said, you can still easily understand the text and if you aren't sure what something means there is a glossary, and the text usually refers you to a relevant section.

This book is broken down into 14 sections:

Acquiring a cat
Pediatrics
Feline behavior
Nutrition
Sex and reproduction
Anatomy
The external cat
The internal cat
Geriatrics
The sick cat
Medical emergencies
Appendices
Glossary
Index

The anatomy section also includes some color plates to help you learn about the skeleton, muscles, etc. This book covers some of the more popular US breeds with a short description.

If you are looking for more information on first aid in pets, I would recommend The First Aid Companion for Dogs & Cats (Prevention Pets) . If you are also a dog or horse owner, you may appreciate the respective species versions of this book UC Davis Book of Dogs : The Complete Medical Reference Guide for Dogs and Puppies and UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Book of Horses: A Complete Medical Reference Guide for Horses and Foals .

I paid the extra money for faster shipping (I needed it right away for one of the classes I'm taking). It was a waste of money.
I ordered another book 2-3 days later, from a different seller, with regular shipping and received that book before this one arrived. The book is in great condition, but I doubt I'll pay extra for shipping again.
Positivley, I can say that there was an insert regarding a last minute change to the book that was included, and the description of the product was accurate.

This book is what I call the Veternarian Bible. I dont think there is anything left out of this book. Informative, and educational. I do cat rescue and adoptions, and this book can potentially save you alot of money if there is a cat issue. Rather than going to the vet and having the vet guess at what the potential issue is, you can go in educated and say, could the cat have this, or that? This book is well worth it. I bought several other books, and they were all incredible. See my reviews for other books on animal care.
