Cornered by Brenda Maxfield was great reading, a meaningful and touching story. Courtney is a sensitive teen who takes on responsibilities for her mother who suffers from fibromyalgia, a rebel sister, and a little brother Denny. She has to run the household; she never had the chance to be just a kid and she knows that without her, the family would fall apart. She puts too much weight on her own shoulders and that makes her want to escape from home and follow her dreams about going to university. She is cornered between her duties and her dreams; between family values and looking after herself. She hates that, but she does what she has to do.
With this book, Brenda makes all parents reevaluate their children's characters and ask themselves when it is the right time to transfer responsibilities and how better to deal with "the next generation".
I recommend this book to young adults and to parents as well. I am curious to follow Courtney to the next book of the series, Seeking Christmas. Madalina, Goodreads Reviewer

Thank you so much for your interest in Cornered
.This book was especially meaningful to me because I've had students in the sameposition as Courtney. Teens that were forced to grow up too fast, take on toomuch responsibility, and held too accountable for every single thing. It's hardto imagine the pressure they're under -- their loss of normalcy. These kids were and are my inspiration. And because of them, I call Cornered
my teen inspirational book!
