Founded in the early 1920s, Corona is a leader in the marketing and manufacturing of professional and consumer tools for the lawn and garden, landscape, irrigation, construction and agriculture markets. With a retail and distribution network that extends throughout the United States and Canada, Corona’s proven designs, quality manufacturing processes and unparalleled customer service make it the best choice in tools for contractors, agricultural professionals and avid gardeners alike.
The Corona Clipper forged bypass pruner is a heavy duty pruner with a blade and hook that are individually hand matched for precision, ensuring the closest, cleanest cuts with maximum cutting capacity. The Radial Arc bypass blade shears precisely with minimum resistance and replaces easily. The blade and the slant-ground hook, designed with a narrow profile to fit easily into tight spaces, are deep forged for strength and durability out of Coronium steel alloy that holds a precision edge. The steel is fully heat treated to permit resharpening for continued clean cutting. The hook is designed with a sap groove to remove debris and preserve cutting action and a tough, wire-cutting notch. The pruner features a precision-machined, self-aligning pivot bolt that adjusts with just one tool. The non-slip grips on the handles are cushioned to enhance comfort. This pruner can cut through 1-inch thick branches and is backed by a lifetime warranty.See all Product description

After less than a month of 'light' use, these pruners look more used than my original pair! I went for them the other day and thought, 'Did someone find my old pair..?' Seriously. Other than the new looking non-slip grips, the metal surfaces are so rusted and corroded (especially the blades) that even the product name is barely visible - and these were not left in the elements. In fact, the only thing not rusting is the spring. The manufacturer must have changed the material formulation to something less rust resistant, and likely less durable. My old pruners, by comparison, while tarnished and stained were not covered with rust. And they were on occasion left out in the elements and/or my humid greenhouse.
Now I'm not so sure about the construction and durability, and we'll see how they retain an edge. As I mentioned, the new pruners have only seen limited use and I am hoping to get as much life out of them as my former pair. Hopefully this isn't the same case of deteriorating product integrity that has plagued many other products over the years. My original review was based on my 'past' experiences with Corona products, and that is why I decided to revise my review.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I recently lost an older pair that were in use for over 10 years (still worked great), and replaced them with a new pair of these. After many years of service (and presumably more...) I'm sold on their construction and durability. There are other similar brands and styles, but these are the real deal.
I will mention that I use these around chain link fence a lot since I have old stumps that continually sprout in my yard. I did accidentally cut down on the fence pretty hard and it did take a nick out of the top blade. I used a little metal file on it to smooth it out and they still prune just as well.
They are good for light to medium pruning and come in 3 different sizes (useful if you need the 1/2 " size for small hands, or want to cut larger diameter branches with the 1 " pruners). The cut is sharp and clean with less hand fatigue. This particular brand in the Corona line of pruners is simple with few parts, so it doesn't break or malfunction like other brands, ie a classic that has stood the test of time.
With a little care (keep them dry, sharpen and oil them on a regular basis), Corona pruners and clippers will last for decades.
